what generally happens during welcome week?
what do you do that week before college starts?

go to http://welcomeweek.berkeley.edu/
it tells you all the events at welcome week
also, you get to know your floormates and stuff before college starts
i heard that its really fun and that we shouldn't miss out on it because then we'll feel left out when everyone else knows each other and you don't :)

-chancellor reception (pretty good food)
-calapalooza, where all the clubs/organizations table. sign up for email lists, get some free stuff...this isn't your only chance to join clubs, but it's a good one
-caltopia, which basically is just a free stuff place; different companies sponsor the event and give things away. not bad
-casino night that's insanely crowded
-a lot of sessions everyday on topics ranging from transportation to how to do well in a social science course to research work as an undergrad to how to do laundry (well that's in the dorms). most sessions have repeats.
-bedbath&beyond/target/etc trips (dorm-organized)

then of course there's lots of stuff that goes on that's not university-sponsored, and general meeting people/hanging out/getting to know the campus and area. you'll be getting lots of blisters from the walking...but you get used to it eventually, and of course you get lost less

you also get a full calendar of welcome week activities/times in your dorm room when you move in, along with...ummm...a planner (that i used a lot) and some other brochures I think? don't remember...

You have the time of your life, walking around with hordes of freshmen and junior transfers ;)

heh, I thought welcome week was mostly debauchery (like parties and whatnot) so I was planning on moving in later that week. Perhaps, I should reconsider. I am a incoming transfer btw. Any thoughts on this?

what if i can't move in until the 24th. should i still go and stay a couple nights at a hotel?

My birthday will be during Welcome Week, that will be interesting at least.

Is there a welcome week for spring admits? I'm guessing no.....? bummer. lol

Oh and would it be wierd for me to go to welcome week in august even though i'm not starting until january? I have friends who are going and I dont' live that far away.

umm, anyone wanna throw out an answer to that question? lol

lol, I'm guessing there isn't a welcome week for spring admits but hey, if you can come to it in august, come! now that i think about it, it would kinda suck if there wasn't a welcome week for the spring admits...but o well.

I Think There Is A Welcome Week In Spring

What kind of free stuff do you get during Welcome Week?

There's normally a welcome week in Spring.

Errr...let's see...free stuff...

I got some office supply stuff at CalTopia (including a desk calendar that was very useful), some coupons, frisbee, tote bag from PricewaterhouseCoopers of all places, ummm...don't remember. From Calapalooza, I got a Think Blue wristlet from Cal Dems, some stickers, posters, buttons, candy, water bottles (like the Nalgene ones, not Arrowhead), other stuff. Oh, and thousands of bottles of Coke Zero.

It's not amazing stuff by any means, but not bad.

My S won a 7-day trip to Cancun in the Charity Poker Tournament!

ya there is a welcome week for spring admits

Do FPF kids get to go to Welcome Week too?

yeah, FPF kids are of course welcome at Welcome Week. I had a lot of friends who were FPF last year, and basically there was no difference in what they were or were not allowed to do except that their classes weren't mine
