Well, everyone else is asking.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could give me some insight into my list of schools and whether or not I need to add a safety.

I am a US citizen who has been living in Switzerland for the past 11 years. I am currently going to the International School of Geneva and taking the IB. I'm taking the hardest course offered at my school which consists of Math, Physics, and Chemistry Higher, and English, French, and History Standard.

Scores:
GPA 6.25/7 (unweighted) [has gotten progressively higher] {the highest gpa at our school is 6.7}
SAT 780 Math/720 Reading/710 Writing
SAT II's 800 Math IIC/ 790 Physics
my school doesn't class rank to my knowledge.
National Merit Commendation
Honor role for the past two years.

Extra Curricular Activities:
Tennis for 8 years
Guitar for 6 years
Diving for 6 years
Computer Programming 6 years (have taught at a summer program, gone to summer programs for four years)
Student Council
India Project (a project run by my school in which we go to india and help build schools, day care centers etc..)
Tanzania Project (similar to the india project but much more intense)
worked at CERN last summer 9-5 job (CERN is the largest center for nuclear research in the world. During my time there me and this czech grad student wrote a program that's been presented at several conferences)

My List:
---Reaches---
Swarthmore (ED)
Harvey Mudd
Pomona
Amherst

--Matches--
Rice
Oberlin

--Safeties--
Carnegie Mellon (numbers seem to fit, not sure about the facts)
Tufts (Our school has a great relationship with them)

now, i'm not sure whether I should add:
kenyon
brandice

(I'm not sure if it counts for anything but I'm applying as a physics major, I'm not sure whether this helps/hurts me)

bump... please

I'm not entirely sure wither CMU and Tufts would be safeties for you--they're really good schools. Pomona, as far as I know is not reputed to have a fantastic Physics program, while Harvey Mudd does.. I would drop Pomona and find another school to replace it with. Brandeis and Kenyon are good school,s and they seem to fit into your general taste for colleges, so I would add them, although again, I'm not so sure about the strength of their Physics programs..

I would add another safety somewhere that you're asbolutely sure you'll get into. Otherwise, your list looks good! You'll almost definitely get into at least one (and probably more) of the schools on your list, so good luck!

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. (unfortunate about Pomona as I just sent off my application.) I know Brandeise has a good Physics program, Kenyon on the other hand is slightly lacking but I got a nice e-mail from their head of international admissions so i figure it can't hurt. Anyway, thanks again for your help!

anyone else?

I know people who come from your high school in Switzerland, but I wouldn't consider Tufts a safety at all as that reputation is not a sure fire admissions ticket. By the way, they all love it here :)

Thanks for your reply! I've been realizing more and more that it wouldn't be a safety for me but it still seems like a really great place. Everyone who I've talked to has really loved it :D. (also last year they accepted 17 people from the foundation and no one went so i think our applicants are a bit screwed in that respect)
