...if I'm on the right track, and whether I have any chance.

I'm a sophomore from India

Academically - the numbers are good, I'm among the top few students in the class. Not taken SAT/ACT yet, but I'm gonna do a lot of prep so they should go well.

Extracurriculars:

National-level tennis
Lots of school-level sports
Involvement in school activities (like quizzes and stuff)
A ton of Model UN
Going to do quite a bit of volunteer work next summer

What do you say? Have I got a chance? What more can I do to improve my profile extracurricularly?

you're fine. Don't add anything else to your extracurriculars. JUst focus on those sports. Colleges like to see you committed to one passion rather than many random things. Get those volunteer hours in. Get good scores (2250+ preferably). Write amazing essays. You will have a good chance.

Alright! Thank you cory123!

Yes definitely...essays are super important i've heard

Why Harvard - because I like the place and it sounds awesome!!

@CollegeGirl2012 - yes definitely as in...I have a good chance?

No, you're on the wrong path. Try to get accepted into IIT, but I doubt you'll even get accepted there.

@Amit Mx: Why do you tell the OP that? I think he/she has great EC's for an Indian. Unless that's sarcasm...

Yeah, IIT is totally not happening man, I know. I'm going to ace the JEE and turn them down just so they know that they're not the aim of every Indian.

Nice chances thread, van Gogh (or is it da Vinci? Dear, dear, I must have amnesia). ;)

That's a justifiable reason?

IMO, yes. Not to mention great academics, a nice urban location and the fact that the college is a perfect fit in all other areas.

So - have i got a chance?

Please come back in a year. Without SAT scores and with little to go on in terms of academics and ECs, no one on CC can possibly advise you.

As a foreign student from India, the competition at the top schools will be extreme.

Go get a life.
