Yea thanks Dru2k, ive been sitting here for the last 6 hours writing draft letters, emailing some people i know, trying my best. This is a true test for me. I know many have always said, "I LOVE USC AND WOULD DIE TO GO THERE," but I truly, TRULY, whole-heartedly have a passion for SC, and will try everything until I can get there.

I greatly appreciate your comments, and plead you all to try your best, pray for me, and give me ANYTHING you think I can use.

I could see if you were waitlisted, but how can you appeal an outright rejection? Am I missing something? We have some of the best college counselors on earth and while they get busy for a waitlist I've never heard of appealing a rejection.

You have great ec's and a better than average sat score. Your gpa is low and your awards lack any substance. They had reason to reject you. Sorry to knock you off your high horse. You better have a brand new prestigious award to show them when you appeal. With the status quo, I see no reason for them to admit you. Good luck.

I think that your best bet would be to stop writing e-mails and to go to bed now and sleep on your situation. In the morning, you'll be able to think more clearly.

Overall, I believe that your best option to get to USC would be to find another college to go to and then to get high grades there and get a leadership position in at least one EC so you'll have good chances of transfering to your dream school.

It is next to impossible to reverse a rejection unless the rejection was due to a problem such as incorrect information on your transcript.

Your stats: 1330 SAT, 3.6 gpa are low for USC. The freshmen profile for 2003 indicated that the average gpa was 3.99 and the middle 50% SAT scores were: 1270-1420. Keep in mind that this was 2 years ago and it was for students who accepted admission.

Since a record number of students applied to US colleges this year, and since the highest stat accepted students are most likely to go elsewhere, your stats may put you in the bottom quarter of students who applied to USC. Therefore, USC was probably a reach school for you.

Your ECs are OK, but are not strong enough to tip you in.

Meanwhile, if you want to go to college this year, you need to talk ASAP with your GC in order to find some realistic options. There are good colleges with openings, and your GC can help you find them.

I'd say try for the appeal b/c you have nothing to lose, and all to gain. But I must say your GPA doesn't look too great unless that is unweighted. Your SAT scores are all right. It seems ECs are EXCELLENT. Good luck though!

Yes people, the Appeal is a formal process in which over 500 students appeal every year. About 40 of these students are accepted, either fall or spring of that same year.

I have good reason to believe that if this appeal is done quickly, efficiently, and full of substance, I have a good chance.

sorry you didn't get in but for an appeal to succeed, there must be a legitimate error on your application or something missing from it or you must have done something extraordinary from the time that you submitted your application to now

I love how the first posts were the most sensible/positive ones. lol. Anyway, come monday, ima build up my cavalry and attack USC. Don't be surprised to hear it on the news. :)

I don't know why you didn't apply to some real safeties. CA has a whole cal-state system that you certainly should have gotten into, and there are probably some UCs you could have gotten into as well. Did you ever meet with your counselor and talk about college admissions?

Well, that's all water under the bridge now. There are plenty of good community colleges in CA, or you can take a gap year and apply to colleges next year.

chris,
for sure more than one letter will help your chances. try to get teachers that know you well, and you can def. talk about that stuff in your appeals letter. have you been working at the hospital more this year? have you dedicated yourself to a certain cause moreso than in years past? these are all things that they might consider in your appeals letter. also, working at the usc hospital is def. a plus for you. try to work that in as much as possible into your letter. i hope that helps!

Mike, as to not applying anywhere, I live in a part of LA and I don't plan on moving/dorming yet, so that is why my choices were so limited. Of course, if I wanted to (and was allowed to :)) move and dorm, these threads wouldn't be up right now. :)

Well as i said, im waitlisted at Occidental, but UCLA, CalTech and Pepperdine (due to part of application missing) rejected me. Its either appeal SC, get in to Oxy from waitlist, or join my fellow Community'ers.

omg! dude, i feel like i'm reading a post i would write! usc was my dream school. everyone told me i would have no problem getting in. i volunteered at LAC/USC med center and a buttload of e.c. including even working in a research laboratory at USC and my mom works there. our stats are almost the same. i feel the same but no matter what, i'm going to be at USC my sophomore year. I've already started applying to U of La Verne 'cause they're still accepting applications. APU is the same and i might look into pasadena community college. let me know what your plans are for next year 'cause i could use the help
