It didnt come as a surprised but I hoped I had if any chance by EDing Cornell; sadly I was rejected. But lesson learnt I need to be more realistic with the colleges that I am applying to, and I could really appreciate the communities help.
Honestly I didnt work full potential during 9th and 10th grade, so my GPA suffered. Only when I started IB did I really become dedicated… But its not an excuse just so you guys understand why some stats are as the following
So my Stats are as the following:
GPA: 3.65
G11 GPA: 3.84
Currently Taking the IB program and after extreme dedication predicted was 40/45
SAT 1: 1810
SAT 2: Bio: 690 Math1: 600
I have Extra Curricular, but I want to choose schools now based on my academic capabilities. If you guys want to know, Ill share them.
I am applying currently to the following colleges; I really want to go to a good college so Id appreciate your comments as to what is realistic, reach or chance
Rutgers
Lehigh
Dartmouth
Northeastern
Seton Hall (Safety)
NJIT (Safety)
NYU (average IB acceptance was 38.7)
Boston College (chance)
John Hopkins (Reach)
Georgetown (Reach)
So these where the colleges I had in mind, plz tell me if there are any other colleges im unaware of that could be chance and if my reaches are actually out of reach.
Your application to Cornell was unrealistic given your stats and you application to schools like Hopkins, Gtown, Dartmouth (how is that not a reach if you didn’t get into Cornell?) ,BC are also pretty unrealistic. I’d say Lehigh is a low reach/high match. Don’t keep applying to schools where your SAT is below the 25% (if you want to try one that is fine, but it should not be the bulk of your list). You need to be realistic and apply to schools that are in your wheelhouse – do not keep repeating the same mistake of overreaching.
Try running the supermatch program on the left under Find a College. If you want people to suggest schools give information about affordability, what you want in a college, potential major etc. Offhand, I would be looking for schools along the lines of Fordham, Fairfield, Syracuse, Marist, SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Binghamton etc.
If you like NJIT, look at TCNJ. Cast a larger net in the patriot league schools than just Lehigh. These are more likely than Dartmouth and Hopkins, but still a stretch. Bucknell, Boston U., Lafayette, Colgate. What are you interested in studying?
The OP’s standardized tests are below the average for some of the Patriot League schools mentioned above, but I agree that Lehigh ED2 might be a good idea.
PS I took the December SAT exam and I might be able to increase my score by 100 points.
1810 is composed of reading 500 math 660 writing 650.
Never studying reading before december so Im predicting a 600 in reading maybe a 20 point increase in writing.
So if im lucky I may hit the 1900s but who knows
I would recommend a school you are near the top of the applicant pool so you maximize your chance to dominate in college and open the door to your dream career.
I have a friend who went to Seton Hall and worked really hard there, constant 4,0s. He managed to get into dentistry at Columbia. So im hoping I can just get into a decent school for undergrad.
My friend slacked in high school but took college really seriously after that.
HI Liveitlight–Sorry to hear about Cornell–but I think you to come up with a more realistic list.
Northeastern, JH, BC, Georgetown, Dartmouth, NYU are all Far Reaches because of SATs and GPA.
Consider: Penn State, BU College of General Studies, U of South Carolina, University of Connecticut, U of Delaware, U of Vermont, Fairfield, Fordham (maybe a Reach) Loyola Maryland, Syracuse.
Cornell ED was brutal this year. Had a friend with a 2250 SAT and 3.9 GPA, as well another friend who is our Salutatorian with double legacy get rejected.
Arts & Sciences can be a tough college to get into. I think you may have a good result at Rutgers and its a great school. Are you a NY resident? If so, I agree with happy1 that you should apply to Binghamton and Buffalo.
Seton Hall is definitely a safety, as with NJIT. Rutgers you have a good shot. I wouldn’t say that JHU, Georgetown, Dartmouth or BC are realistic for you because they are even reaches for me with a 4.55 GPA and a 34 ACT. Anywhere with an average SAT score above 2000 is going to be tough for you.
Perhaps consider Hofstra University, Penn State, UPitt, UDel, UVermont, UConn, Purdue, Duquesne University, Drexel University (that would be good for you) or any state schools that you have.
But I STRONGLY advise you to not look for schools that are just academically good. Look what schools have the best program in your major or field of interest! It’s a waste to spend money on school when you’re not getting the best education possible in that field.
Best of luck
Purdue OOS is probably a high match or a low reach given the OP’s stats. PSU OOS probably is too.
Also, they’re expensive for OOS students. (as are the other OOS state schools).
If money is an issue, I think the OP should be looking at state schools in his or her home state and private schools that give decent financial aid and that are appropriate for OP’s profile.
And yes, look for academic, financial and cultural/weather fit.
I disagree with prezbucky. OP, I’m from NY, and a lot of people in my school with stats similar (or lower) than yours have gotten accepted to Purdue and PSU. Also, PSU has multiple campuses that are easier to get into than their main campus. You don’t need to apply separately. You could also try SUNY Buffalo or Geneseo. (Being from NY, I can tell you that these schools are looking for more OOS students if you happen to be one)
But of course, only apply if you can find a way to pay the large costs. But assuming you applied to Cornell ED, I doubt that’s a problem.
I think your credentials are good enough that you should not have to consider the generic public schools in your state. I think you can probably gain entry to better schools like Penn State U or Northeastern, Seton Hall (Safety), NJIT (Safety), NYU, Boston College, Vermont, UConn.
