Well lets see....

hey, I'm a senior in ca. wondering about my chances at SCS either ED or RD

ACT: 31 or 2100 sat

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.27
ugh...

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

thank you very much

bump for scs chance ED/EA

bump for above

SAT-CR 650-750 SAT-M 740-800 SAT-W 640-730 Rank 6% GPA 3.78

Those are the middle 50% statistics for SCS. Don't know exactly how to translate total ACT or SAT score, but I'd guess you are on the low side for SAT, and low for GPA and rank. You don't appear to have any experience with computer programming. CMU doesn't print statistics for ED, so I have no idea how much of a bump that gives you. Overall SCS acceptance rate was 18.6% last year. Being Hispanic should be a help though.

oh damn. i'm soooooo stupid. i meant H & SS. wowzers, my bad. (i'm not interested in comp. programming...)

ok so i'll rephrase my question:

chances for H & SS?

thanks

LOL. Your chances are much better now. HSS accepts about a third of the students who apply, and presumably a great percentage ED. Your SAT should put you in close to the top quarter of applicants. GPA is still a bit low. CMU doesn't say whether their number is weighted nor do you say if yours is weighted.

Here is the HSS line:
CR 610-710 M 640-730 W 610-700 Rank 11% GPA 3.50

Here's the link to the statistics page: Admission Statistics

I'd say you were a good match with a better than 50% chance of getting in.

i emailed their admissions person and she said that that's the unweighted. and the stat i posted is unweighted.

do you think it'd be greater than 50% if i applied ED? or ea or whatever the hell it's called now. lol

ok i have a quick question.

How much help would the Aff. Action + an ED app give me? would it give me a substantially better shot at being accepted?

oh and in predicting the chance, % would be soo greatly appreciated. thanks.

mhmm yayay

Look none of us can really say, because CMU doesn't give out the statistics for admissions for underrepresented minorities or ED vs regular decision. The only thing anyone can tell you for sure is that your chances are probably somewhat better than the 33% overall admission rate. You can figure that out too.

Is H and SS that easy? I have almost identical stats, but I'm white (still from underrepresented state (FL) if that matters). Would I be allowed to transfer into SCS after freshman year?

The advice SCS gives is don't got to CMU with the expectation to transfer into SCS. Be happy with whatever major you're in in the first place, and if you can transfer, treat it as a bonus.

I think to do the transfer you'd definitely want to mirror the typical SCS freshman course schedule and get a 4.0.

How big of a reach for SCS is the OP?

3.27? Huge.

wait, what's my chance at H & SS applying ED?

(I screwed up my original post)

boy i hope this all star game goes until the 18th inning. see bud selig squirm

oh and bump

wow i randomly checked this thread and i'm watch the ASG too. i can't stand the announcers... so annoying! i feel bad for uggla too. 3 errors, 2 failed chances with runners in scoring position, and his dad was waiting for him to play at yankee stadium. anyway.. they can't call this a tie because this one conunts lol

joe buck is too plain, and tim mccarver is mr. obvious. the only good part was the beginning and the final play, but imagine if it had gone one more inning. Grady Sizemore maybe pitching! or some other position guy.

go yanks. and i guess this is bumping it again lol

bump for ED at H & SS undecided major
