I've worked really hard on my essays, and a notable medill alum is recommending me as well. I've been interested for a very long time, almost to obsession.

Please? with a cherry?

What specific college?

What's your ethnicity? What's your ranking, or if you don't have ranking how do you compare against other people in your school?

I'm not sure NU will really take an upward trend into account...

I don't know, it's hard to chance because your ACT is below the range and your GPA is borderline. Class rank can help though. (I have a 3.71 as well) It'll really depend on your essays.

Medill is very competitive... So I'm not sure.

Basically here is my take on it, they will like that you have an upward trend, you're score is not in the range, but that just shows the middle 50% of students, there are 25% who score lower, and 25% that score above that range. You're not so far away from the range, and test scores aren't everything and that is not a horrible score (even though a lot of people on CC make it seem that way). They compare you to other people in your school not to someone who goes to the number one school in the U.S. and may have perhaps had more opportunities or test prep or whatever than you. Also if you are hispanic or black that helps. Your ECs look good especially since you went to their 5 week program. If your essays are from the heart and recs are really good then that also really helps your app. Are you for sure going to get in? I dont know, I don't think you would for sure get rejected, I think if you really showed you and made yourself stand out and made NU want you, then yeah you can get in... but only you know that.

I think that because of your scores NU is probably a reach for you...but your ECs are impressive and it looks like you're really dedicated to the things you do. If nothing else, NU will definitely take note of that. Good luck!

Since I can't really anticipate your intangible stats, let's focus on the tangible stuff now shall we?
Strictly speaking your ACT is a bit on the low end, but your extracurriculars are excellent. Plus, you have work experience which could make up for your gpa.

I think you have a decent shot.

xD Don't worry, NU is a reach for me too. I hope we both get in.

Thanks for all the responses!
No, I'm a white girl. I go to one of the top prep schools in AZ (if not the top), we don't do ranks and I have nnnooo idea where I fall, but I know I'm at least in the top 1/3rd. I hope we all get in!

Also I think my essays were really good, same with recs.
