If you can't get into Berkely or UCLA what makes you think you'll get into some of the other top public U's?

Because the UC gpa kills me bc I've taken more than 8 semesters in 10th and 11th grade. And their acceptance rate is around 25%. Also their avg gpa is 3.8uw/4.2w

Wisconsin has a 68% acceptance and the avg gpa is around 3.6-7 uw. Rank and a rigorous schedule seem to benefit and my rank is top 5% out of around 650 students, and I'm taking a lot of ap's and honors. I think it is fair to say I have a way better shot here than at UCLA and UCB.

I don't know much about Florida, but it seems pretty difficult, so I'm not planning on getting in.

As for Penn St. they have 62% acceptance rate. Only 40% are in the top 10% of their class, and only 27% of students have above a 3.75......So this doesn't yell out difficult to me.

Oh and UMiami is way better than Florida!!!!

And every other school besides UCSB which is just as great as UM.

Go Hurricanes!!!!......and Gauchos!!!!

SoCal,

Just so you know only 29k people bothered to show up for the UM v UNC game in the Orange Bowl last Saturday. UF had more people in attendance at it's pep rally. UF just won a national championship in Basketball (and is looking to repeat this season), and is now the top football program in the South.

Just something to think about.

I believe that the statistics you mention above might be for all Penn State campuses. Many students who apply do not get accepted to the main campus (University Park) and end up spending two years at one of the smaller campuses. According to the Penn State website, the GPA for the middle 50% of accepted students to University Park is 3.46 to 3.87 and the middle 50% for SATs is 1160 to 1340. This implies that 25% of students offered admission to University Park for the fall of 2006 had GPAs over 3.87 and SATs over 1340.

Well I got the numbers from college board's website....for Penn State University Park.

I think the data on CB's site might be last year's data. It states that there are 6,496 First-time degree-seeking freshmen. However, according to the Penn State Fact Book, UP had 6,489 (close enough) freshmen last year and The Collegian (PSU's newspaper) states that 8,302 freshmen had accepted admission this year. This is a record number for PSU UP.
