Well this just isn't working out. Huh.

I've been prepping for the ACT since early July. Other than finishing under the time limit, I haven't increased in score at all. I've done like 9 practice tests. In every test I score within the same range, and overall 33, maybe 34 or 32. Math is the only high score I can count on (I pretty much know every problem, I just get some careless errors). In science/reading, I always make 2+ careless errors and get bumped down to a 31-34.

What can I do to increase reading/science? It seems like you can't really study for them. It's like a wall :(

It’s difficult to improve once you’re in the 30s because you obviously know what you’re doing, it’s just those careless mistakes that you make.

I’m in the same boat here, and I really dont think there is much more you can do. Just be focused on test day

Well if you’ve taken 9 practice tests, it’s hard to expect too much of a jump now. But some things to ask about reading/science.

Do you waste time reading the passages in science? Going straight to the questions could increase your score.

As for reading, I like to read the passages before looking at the questions. Once you’ve absorbed that, the answers come much easier.

Just keep your speed up so that you can use your extra time to go back and find the careless errors.

I read the passages in science because I find that I eventually will have to (some questions require it) or I will lose some info and get a question wrong.

Yeah I do that for reading. The science passage is usually really easy for me but in the other 3 I usually have to refer back to the passage many times (reading once doesn’t give me enough info to answer all the questions without going back).

Well yeah, you’ll still have to refer to specific places in the text if the question tells you to.

I agree with that for the passage comparing different viewpoints, but for the rest it’s really not necessary.
