Well this seems to blow...

I got Alderman - Courtenay as my dorm...the dorm that's farthest away from everything.

Sorry, that's Hereford. You can go to Runk when you don't want to deal with O-Hill's crowdedness.

Well I meant its the Alderman dorm thats farthest.

I applied to Brown College and got it, but listed it as my 3rd choice. Realistically, I wanted to be in the Old Dorms. Well, at 5pm tonight I learned that I'm at Brown.
I was a little shocked--not expecting it. But there I am.
I wanted the first year experience in the old dorms. I'm sad. Brown is cool. I wish I had done things differently.

For me: Lefevre
MC CORMICK ROAD

Which makes me very happy since I wanted old dorms. Can someone tell me how to read this. What does the A1 or A2 mean. If the number is 100's then you are on the first floor?

Sigma you wanted Alderman anyway right?

jimmyjam...you can make the most of it wherever you live.

I got Emmet at McCormick road, for which im extremely happy/ grateful for. I do kinda feel bad for all the people who got placed in Hereford, etc without requesting it though.

And BGjeez, i believe, but im not 100% sure, that 100's is the first floor, 200's 2nd etc, and that the A1 and A2 dont really have any significance. (i think for like a double one roomate will get A1 and the other will get A2)

I got brown college but this shocking as i didn't see my name when they released the names of accpeted students in June. Also i just spent like an hour on my brown app and it was pretty crappy so i never expected to get in.

Maybe i just overlooked that time but their site is down right now so i can't confirm it.

Each house in McCormick has four floors, first two being males, top two for females. Looking at the front of each, there's three floors (100-300) then in the back, there's the basement (000). The basement only has rooms on one side, the rest have both. There's rooms on both sides in the upper floors. Each dorm/floor has two sides, Right and Left. When someone says they live in Humphreys second right, they live on the second floor on the right side in the Hump house.
So, yes, you are technically on the first main floor (which slightly sucks because people will be slamming the main door/leaving it open so the alarm goes off at 3am...but its fine). And A1/A2 is just the assignment for doubles, it doesn't matter other than checking in/getting a key. And returning the key.

yea sorry the brown site was hacked recently (stupid italian ppl who did it or so says the evidence - a full length italian movie uploaded to the server)... there is a copy (of the website... not the movie... lol) on http://www.seanedington.com/brown i think.

that's weird, not even on the waitlist? i wonder how that happened. are you in the facebook group for new brownies??

ps. i knew someone in courtenay last yr too she seemed to be fine with it though, sure its a little far but youll at least appreciate the exercise?? i dunno look on the bright side you're not in hereford!

i have alderman: Balz...

anyone else?

thanks hazelorb for the link

my name is definetly is not on the list and im not in the facebook group for new brownies either

well brown was my first choice so im happy about the assignment

My son is at work tonight, but got his dorm assignment before he left. He's been assigned to Kent at McCormick Rd and is very happy with that (he really wanted old dorms). He also has a friend (girl) who was assigned to Echols. I think that's pretty close to Kent, so they're happy.

Shoe, thanks for the explaining the old dorms set-up. Is there any way to tell by the room number whether or not it's a corner room?

I got Malone, dang. I listed McCormick as my first choice and Alderman my second, and I was placed in a single at the farthest building possible from classes. Ugh, this is gonna be hell. I know Malone/Weedon is associated with Alderman but it's located in Hereford so what's the freaking difference? I'm just annoyed. And I have to pay the extra cost for the single. Whatever. I'll apply to Brown next year.

Thanks shoe! Actually my room number is 315. I wanted to get a better idea of how they number floors and you provided that for me.

Joanee how did you manage to score a single? That sounds good, but I really like my privacy. Mind if I ask what the extra cost is for a single?

jimmyjam, you should be lucky you're in brown coz, as a first year, only a selected number of students get to live there. If you wait to live in Brown after freshman year, you're basically taking your chances.

Sorry Joanee. I was surprised by my assignment too. I agree with you --why do they call Malone a part of Alderman, when it really is Hereford. Brown College has these semi-single rooms and I like the residential aspect. I guess since I listed McCormick first, that is what I hoped I got. I'm just gonna have to make the best of it.

To be honest, I was also surprised you got Brown as your assignment. Many prospectives were worried that they won't live in Brown unless they got accepted and listed it as their top choice. It's either they really didn't have room for your 1st or 2nd choice, or that acceptance to Brown binds you to live there... ahh, you'll learn how to deal with UVA housing ;)

joannee-malone is "considered" part of alderman because you don't get the same access as those that live in hereford. I believe that this year malone is exclusively first year unlike previous years where first years were scattered around hereford. If you really want to live in the traditional dorms you definitely can, you just have to let housing know and when room opens up they'll move you.

A1/A2 just designates you a "bed" so don' worry about that.

I didn't think that getting accepted into Brown would bind me to live there. I thought that, that is why they have a first year waiting list; why else would they have it??
But, Brown is in a beautiful, strategic part of campus. It will be nice, I'm sure. I mean, I did fill out the application and strongly considered it as an option.
