Well this sucks...

And one piece of advice for future transferees...

Never be too honest.

If there is information that is unnecessary and extraneous and will only hurt you in the end - don't mention it, you'll get screwed over like me.

For example, I got rejected by pretty much every UC I've applied for except for UCSB, UCSD and UCI. Finally found out why today - basically my GPA was calculated as being 2.7 because I happened to have mentioned the first community school I went to after high school where I basically failed an entire semester - but this was outside of California and the policy is all weird and messed up where they don't offer you renewal until you wait 5 years. So I came to California, worked hard, dedicated myself to school while working part-time, was in the Honors program and ended up with at least a 3.8 GPA, but later when application rolled around I got really stressed out when my counselor advised that I post every school I went to for honesty's sake. I was conflicted for a while, but application period was ending, so then I decided to tell them everything. So I did, believing that honesty really is the best policy, but now I got rejected by my dream schools, shattered my chances of an academic career and now I sincerely believe I will be rejected by the rest of the UCs and end up bitter for the rest of my life.

Yeah I know - pathetic - that I'm letting an institution affect my entire life - but I just can't help it right now. I don't know what else to do, I didn't apply for any backup Cal States or private schools.

Well, to each his own.

I think, sooner or later the lies would have caught up to you. I wouldn’t have been able to do that, even if I didn’t get into my dream school.

Good luck…maybe it was for the best?

Well you have to be honest when applying. If you didn’t report your horrible past, I can most certainly guarentee you that you would’ve been blacklisted. This is due to the fact of The National Clearinghouse. You still got into all the other UC’s, sure you got rejected by probably UCLA. But there are many out there who are smart and still don’t get in. Chin up and know you’ve tried your best.

It’s better that you were honest. One of my buddies made the mistake of hiding his east coast CC records which dropped him from a 3.9 to a 3.4. He got into LA, but right before Cal admissions came out he got a letter saying his UC App was cancelled for FRAUD and that he was banned from EVER applying to the UC system again. I asked an advisor that had been helping me who confirmed that the UC looks down on this and takes it VERY seriously.

At least you have a chance to try again, if you choose to do so.

^
That’s intense, but great example.

Don’t think it’s the end of the world. Everything happens for a reason.

even though you were rejected from your dream schools, you did the right thing.
one of my poli sci professors told me that back in the day he was in school with this girl (UCSB), and one of her frenemies found out that she went to 2 ccc’s instead of 1 that she put on her app. even though that girl was already accepted and 1 semester in at UCSB, her frenemy told some officials at SB and they were able to see that she left out that ccc so they kicked her out :(

^^^ omg

^ oommgg

sounds like a Gossip Girl episode… Jebus.

frenemies? LOL

But seriously, you did the right thing. Who knows, those lies might have caught up to you if you just chose to omit your other school’s info.

**?? got rejected to all UCs EXCEPT UCSB, UCSD and UCI??? is wrong with you?!?! Yes UCLA is great, and I got rejected too, but you also go into 3 VERY good school’s and UCSD is on pace wit UCLA and Cal.

Unless im reading something wrong, you need to really appreciate what you have.

It’s never wrong being honest.

By the way, do we need to report every school that we attended in the past? What about schools out of the country?

UCI, UCSB and UCSD are still pending… I never really said I got in.

You know what guys, I think I just need a really long vacation. The college apps thing, 17 units and full-time job that I hate is really pushing me at the edge of sanity.

You did the right thing. If you didn’t report your previous grades, it would have eventually caught up to you at the end. You have to report EVERY course you ever taken. There is no clean slate after you have started. You can’t just fail a whole semester and say hey ill just do better next semester. The UC’s take everything into account.

But the one thing you can show em is that you have changed. This can be done through your personal statement. Tell em how hard you had to work to get where you are at now. The barrier you had to break. The challenges you had to endure. Who knows, they might have sympathized your situation and accepted you.

If you DO not report your academic history with full integrity, not only will you lose the acceptance to the UC, you will also be BANNED from ever applying to another UC like in the story MB260E described.

Telling future transfer students to not be “too honest” in their applications is terrible advice.

Do we need to report scores from schools we attended out of the country?

^
Yes. They’ll notice your gap in education and ask, and if you don’t tell them well…o__O;;
It’s just better to be honest.

sakurax, were you referring to my question?

Do we need to report all schools we have attended or just community colleges? What if I attended the school from other countries and they might not even have my record anymore? Through out my education my scores were fine, but it would be tedious to find out how well did I do, because in another country, they did not even use GPA. How would I even know what GPA do I have?

^
We have another member who had University work from Russia. Her transcripts were based on hours spent. I talked to my friend in UCSD admissions, and she said to just let the UCs know that you WENT there.

First year I went to a Private Catholic school, added my transcripts, no big deal. If they have questions regarding your out of country work, they will e-mail you.

Good luck.

gattacamz - if you haven’t been reading the posts. It’s better to submit all your work even if it’s outside of the U.S.

^ thanks for your input.

I did go to a university in my home country, that was about 7 years ago. I never finished it, and I resigned from it voluntarily, because I was majoring foreign language and I had no interest in staying for something I had no passion for. So now I really do not know if the school still have my record or not. So when I apply for UCs, do I need to just tell them that I had university experience out of the country alone? Or do I even need provide transcript? I have not even seen the UC application forms online, so I have no idea what kind of information is asked on the application form.
