chances for:
wellesley
bu
wesleyan
nyu
william & mary

Although i have no way of knowing whether you will be admitted or not...
I feel like you are a very strong candidate. Are you shooting for Stern?

Sophomore or Junior transfer? If you're soph, then your SAT will hurt you quite a bit. Otherwise, looks like you have a good shot at some of those. I believe wellesley and wesleyan aren't very transfer friendly number wise...

Why do you want to leave UMass?

i'm a sophmore. i will be a junior fall '07 (that's what i'll be applying for)

i want a more challenging environment.

so not wellesley or wesleyan eh?

I think you'll be ok at BU, William & Mary, and probably Wes and NYU. I'm not sure about Wellesley, but I'd imagine it's the most competitive of your schools. Retake the SATs if you get a chance and you'll have a better shot overall.

W&M doesn't want scores

SAT 1030 (which you've indicated on other posts) presents huge problems for Wellesley or Wesleyan, and probably NYU (not sure).

Medians there on old scale are about 1390 to 1400 math and verbal

so retake? or just apply to BU and schools w/out SATs?

As a junior transfer, your GPA will matter a lot more. I would retake the SAT's, you'd surely improve and it'd just help your application.

I believe Wellesley is impossible to transfer into.

retake. from the rest of your profile, it sounds like you're a pretty smart girl and would be able to do considerably better this time around. Instead of the SATs, consider the ACT, since you can take it and just send in that one test score (then they'll never see the 1030 SAT).

I know Wesleyan requires test scores. NYU is also very adamant about students sending them (as well as strongly recommending SAT IIs). I don't know about Wellesley cause I'm not a lady. :D

i mean, would a school like Amherst (that doesnt want scores for transfers) be easier for me to get into than Wellesley just because of scores??

Amherst has about a 15% transfer rate. I don't think your chances would be better there, though I have heard they like UMass students.

Wellesley is not impossible to transfer into. In fact, it has a pretty high transfer rate of 39%. You have a shot.

they like umass students?? (the ones who have cross registered and taken courses at AC or any umass students?)

No, because amherst's acceptance rate is way below wellesley

also wellesley no longer seems to have that 39% accep. rate....it has dropped to 27% acc. to collegeboard.

I dunno...seemed like when I was checkin the school out it had a special paragraph about students within the 5 college consortium that wanted to transfer.

But yeah, stick clear of Amherst. I mean, you could try, but I think Wellesley is far more realistic. Actually, all of your schools are realistic. Here are the transfer rates:

wellesley 39%
bu 31%
wesleyan 40%
nyu 30%
william & mary 52%

Yeah...that's good stuff. :D

Edit: Oh...well, I'm getting that info from US News Premium, so yeah it may have changed. I guess people figured out Wellesley had a great transfer rate and now it's going down. Still, 27% isn't awful at all for such a good school.

ya, i noticed that

thanks brand_182 for the reassurance!
