Hi, I am applying to Wellesley RD and was wondering what the word count on the writing supplement was. It says “in two well-developed paragraphs” and there was something on the essay tips on the Wellesley website that said you should be able to explain yourself in 500 words, but I wasn’t sure if that was referring to the common app essay or the supplement. I know in previous years the limit was 400, but does anyone have an idea of the word count for the supplement? Thank you!
@tiffatiger as far as I know, it’s just the February notification that’s different. maybe since the deadline is 2 weeks before, EE shows that you’re keen to apply and stuff, but otherwise it’s the same
@wordcount I don’t think there’s a limit since they didn’t specify in the Writing Supplement section. However, they do put a size limit which was 500 KB, so it probably can’t be too long. Mine came out to be about 440 KB, but it was really long - around 780 words.
Hi everyone! Was accepted ED but a few friends at my school are waiting on their EE decisions - I’m so nervous for them!! Whatever happens I’m absolutely sure all of you will live amazingly fulfilling lives Good luck to all of you brilliant ladies and maybe I’ll bump into some of you on campus sometime!
@tiffatiger It is interesting to note that last year, Wellesley accepted 42% of early evaluation candidates but only 21% were admitted during regular decision.
Does anyone know why this is? I’m assuming the caliber of EE and RD candidates should be about the same, so I’m a bit confused why the EE rate is two times higher.
@13lia1 Congratulations!!! You must be feeling so relieved and happy right now!
@Ambitious19 Thank you!! I’m SUPER happy and relieved and so excited to get on campus!! Your list of schools all sound insanely amazing though and I’m sure wherever you end up going you’ll be fine!
Hmm and as to EE and RD - Perhaps EE is just more useful because since the admissions team get to see those candidates first they can “fill in” the gaps of the incoming class, whereas when time comes for RD a lot of the “gaps” in a school body will already be accounted for? And I guess if you’re the type of person who is very organized and manages to make the EE deadline (also showing commitment) you’re more likely to be the kind of student W is looking for as well. Plus since applying is free, I’m guessing there will be some people who half-heartedly decide to apply to Wellesley last minute on RD just because! I wouldn’t worry much though! You seem very articulate and prepared GOOD LUCK to you wherever you go!!!
@Ambitious19 @13lia1
oh no :((( I should have finished my Wellesley supplement beforehand. yes, it’s probably because the EE students are reviewed first and it does show commitment. Since Wellesley’s supplement calls for an attached document rather than directly writing it onto common app, I didn’t check the college’s tab. I actually didn’t know about EE until I was ready to submit, which is bad on my part, I guess.
Hi guys! I’m kind of concerned because my Wellesley applicant portal still doesn’t show that my first quarter grades have been received, even though my counselor faxed in the grades on January 7. However, I haven’t received an email from Wellesley saying that I was missing credentials, so perhaps they received it but didn’t update the portal yet? There’s another recent thread in the Wellesley forum about Wellesley deferring her application to RD from EE because she was missing a teacher recommendation, so because I haven’t gotten a notification yet, does this mean I’m still part of the EE round?
@Ambitious19 mine registered the day i put it, but that’s because my counselor put it through the CommonApp so they received it instantly, so if they got it i think they would’ve updated the portal. but then again, with some of my other colleges, the portal takes AGES to update. so i wouldn’t worry too much, especially since you haven’t gotten a ‘missing credentials’ email or anything. if you were deferred to RD, they would definitely send you an email telling you about that or something… so don’t worry
@natasham thanks for the reassurance! The wait is so agonizing…
@Ambitious19 no problem! ugh i know, i’m counting down the days. so nervous.
ED students tend to be a stronger applicant pool and demonstrate a greater commitment. That’s why the ED acceptance rate is higher that the RD rate at almost every selective school. (And of course, at some schools, there are a lot of recruited athletes accepted in the ED round.) But plenty of people who are deferred to RD do get in, and plenty of RD candidates are accepted.
I did not interview and got accepted to Wellesley (ED). Interviews are not required so don’t worry.
@WendyWellesley congratulations!! i’ll hopefully see you on campus in the fall fingers crossed
AHHH less than a month omg
Did anyone get any scholarship letters today from Wellesley via U.S. Mail? If no letter has been received (so far), is that indicative of not being admitted?
What happens on Feb 23rd?
i’m on vacation so can’t check my mailbox. doubtful tho.
I got an email about checking my wellesley portal for updates. got it today. did everyone else get that?
yes.
@HeliMom74 Ahh where did you hear about the scholarship notifications?? Have people received them already?
