I wrote about impressive sounding and acting scientific equipment and the Albright Institute
I wrote about 24 hour Shakespeare and everything that is named
I answered “Finding people who will stick with you”. Growing up in California, friends are flaky and come and go. My parents were born in Boston, and still have their childhood friends. I want similar experiences. I also answered about Boston and Cambridge. I talked about “Whole Bellied Fried Clams” and why are they only served in the East. Also the concept of candlepin bowling, watching candlepin bowling on Channel 38 and why this concept is only in the NorthEast. I also threw in the fact I’d like to meet a girl from Charlestown whose parents may be some of the best bank robbers in the United States. That is an unusual fact that Charlestown has the best bank robbers, made famous in Ben Affleck movies.
I did mine on HRC (cliché, I know but I just saw her speak in my hometown AND SHE IS AWESOME) and “we’ve got your back”
I’m late lol. amazed that almost none of us picked the same things you all sound so interesting and passionate!
@jdmoves10 - I’m very interested in the W-B orchestra! I also applied to Brandeis so maybe I’ll see you from the other side
@emedylinaira - omg I almost wrote about the BCNC! do you want to go into education? it sounds like a really cool program
Just wondering - how many of you guys interviewed? I requested one for RD, but there was alumnae in my area and my parents weren’t willing to drive me somewhere so I had to decline D:
I had an interview in early October. I actually think it was one of my best!! we had some similar interests and talked for about 45 mins. made me really want to go to Wellesley
@mech423 Same! I had an interview 2 days ago and the interviewer was super friendly. Wellesley has quickly become one of my top choices.
@mech423 not education, but East Asian Studies! I wrote about BCNC because I head a local nonprofit that teaches authentic Chinese culture and also raises money for impoverished children in China, so I’m really looking forward to continuing in the same area of community service in a different way at BCNC
oh cool! that’s great that it connects to what you want/like to do so well
Now, how to pass the time until March?? I think I’m going to try to write a book. That’s me in a nutshell–random and ambitious.
Where else did you guys apply? I was just accepted to UVa, but I’m OOS so idk if I can afford it, but it definitely feels good
Congrats on UVa! I’ve heard that’s really hard for OOS right? Most OOS’s I know expected rejection and got accepted so props all around
and I won’t even say how many schools I applied to, because the answer is “too many”. 8-X some of my top choices are Pomona, Smith, Wellesley, Tufts, Wesleyan, etc…basically if it’s a small LAC I’m in love!
@mech423 Thank you!! Yeah, I totally expected rejection/deferral. Fell off a treadmill when I realized I got in. I applied to so many schools, I have to pull up Naviance every time someone asks me where I applied :))
@emilyskates I applied ED to Penn at first, but got denied D:
Now, my apps have gone to UD (Accepted with Honors but I’m in-state, so), Washington College (Accepted with a hefty merit scholarship), UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Smith, and of course Wellesley (all pending).
@stellacastor I was also rejected Penn ED lol. I was accepted to Northeastern (honors program) with a 22K/year scholarship, Fordham with a full tuition scholarship, UVa, and Binghamton. I applied to Cornell, Dartmouth (can’t wait for my rejections on Ivy Day!!!), UC Berkeley, UCLA, obviously Wellesley, Michigan, Vanderbilt, USC, and a few others that I can’t remember.
Hey everyone, sorry to respond so late! Had some issues with my account but I’m back As for what prompts I chose, they were #74 (the philosopher, Michele Moody-Adams) and #43 (lifelong friendships). Didn’t get an interview.
@emilyskates Jeez, that’s a lot! I’m glad you’re putting yourself out there haha, good luck! (Also, sorry about Penn D:, we deserve better anyways.)
Hey, I applied ED to Wellesley but got deferred so here I am. I wrote about the 24 Hour Shakes and the liberal arts and sciences. Good luck to all of us!
@stellacastor Thanks, and you too! Haha a senior at my school last year applied to 23 colleges. Legend.
@misschoding I’m sorry you got deferred! I hope AdCom decides to give you good news in the future
Just wondering, but what were your stats for your ED app?
@emilyskates Oh my gosh that’s… literally so many I can’t imagine.
