***WELLESLEY CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANTS THREAD***

Hi everyone!

I was surprised to see that there wasn’t a general applicants thread already made so I thought…why not make one? I’m so excited to apply! Wellesley is one of my top choices

There is also an ED thread if you applied early decision http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20089359#Comment_20089359

I saw! I’m planning on applying via EE  @akin67

I applied to Wellesley for a planned major of International Relations! Excited to hear back

If your school doesn’t calculate trimester grades (we go off of a 6 weeks and semester basis) what do we submit?

You will need to submit the most recent grades available, and if you don’t have that your guidance counselor needs to send them a progress report demonstrating your performance so far this academic year.

Hi everyone! I’m applying to Wellesley EE and had a question about the Wellesley 100 essay. Should we reference the designated number of the items we choose (for example: the lifelong friendships one is number 43)? Just want to make sure I don’t forget them if that’s something required!

Also - should we put the prompt at the top of the document we submit? Or do we not need to as there’s only one prompt?

I think it should be clear if you have two different points in your Wellesley 100 essay. Personally, I didn’t add in the specific numbers. But it’s honestly up to you!

I don’t think adding the prompt at the top is necessary haha but once again, it’s up to you! @azure342

@gongju Thank you!

@gongju Yes, thank you for making this! Would anyone mind looking over my “100” essay?

@littleredballoon I’d be happy to if you PM me

Hi all! Could I post of stats here to get chanced for Wellesley ED 2?

Disclaimer - I am hardly qualified. At all.

Hi.

Here is a blurb about me:

I am a senior at EXTREMELY competitive public high school. Asian (from India), upper-middle class. Have no hooks.

Freshman year taken all honors, ended up with B-s, Bs, and B+s. Sophomore year same deal, except ended with C in Algebra II. Junior year took 2 APs. Ended with a D in AP Physics 1, B- in PreCalc, A-s and As in everything else.

My physics grade is pretty awful, and foils my chances of attending my dream school (Wellesley). How much would this impact me? I’m voluntarily repeating the class at a community college over the summer to show that I’m proficient in physics. I am planning to write about the D experience in my essay (in a non-cliche way). Also, I would like to mention somewhere that the class I took was actually AP Physics 1, 2 & C, but since schools aren’t allowed to offer all in a year, my teacher just called it AP Physics 1. The class was extremely fast-paced and rigorous, and I worked my butt off but to no avail.

GPA: VERY LOW
Weighted: 3.48 - 5.52 (This is a range because my school hasn’t let out an official GPA yet - I calculated it myself)
Unweighted: 3.2something

Senior year, taking 2 APs and 1 AP-weighted class.

All APs:
Spanish - A-, 3 on exam
Biology - doing well, expect 4 or 5 on AP exam
Physics 1 - D, 3 on exam
Psychology - doing extremely well, expect 5 on AP Exam

Also taking a college level English course (Had the option of taking AP Lit or this, obv AP Lit looks better to colleges but this college level English class lets me skip first year of required writing class in college if I choose to do so).

Will get recs from Honors English teacher jr year, and Physics Professor

Qualified to take Spanish at Princeton University my senior year because I was one of 3 students to take AP Spanish V as a junior. Only nonnative speaker to be offered this course (this was before they saw my GPA plummet after I took physics), but my spot still holds and I might take the SPA 207 class during my senior year of high school!! If i take this course, I will most likely have to drop AP Psych (but I think its totally worth it in terms of experience, and colleges might possibly think so as well)

Also, retook Physics 101 at Community college ver summer @ ended with A, got a rec from my professor at community college

ACT = 32, just one time
SAT Subject: Physics, 650 (ehhhh… should I submit this? I just want to show that I’m not a complete failure at physics)

ECs:

-dancer since 6 y.o.
-cellist since 7 y.o (play for prestigious youth orchestra & school honors orchestra, private lessons)
-actively involved in schools Amnesty International club (but no official leadership role)
-volunteering at local hospital since freshman yr, 100+ hrs
-youth justice advocate at family court since junior yr. Super cool and unique experience where I provide advice and stuff to lower income students who have committed crimes.
-string quartet club at school
-a job at Wegmans or Staples if I have time

Awards:
-Spanish Honors Society & Honor Roll
-Congressional Award - Silver Medal
National Spanish exam silver medal

Please be brutally honest. I do not wish to waste my ED 2 on a school I have virtually no chance of getting into. Although my grades do not reflect this, I am pretty motivated and I LOVED Wellesley… more on this later if someone replies! I know that they’ll need some convincing to admit me… or even consider me…

^^ UPDATE: ended up writing common app essay about something else, not physics. Both counselor and physics rc letter mention physics situation

My second quarter grades aren’t great right now because we haven’t had a lot of assessments - will it negatively impact my evaluation? And if so, by how much?

Hey! I’m an international student and we kind of had an issue in school so all of my mid terms were crammed into two days. As a result, I’ve gotten a D (50%) in Math but everything else is mostly A’s and B’s. Is that going to affect my admissions?

@socksnthings I would just explain that in your application under additional information

Can anyone read over my “100” essay?

Is anyone else applying Early Decision 2? If so any idea of when they’ll post results?

I am so nervous about my admission. I am in international student, with excellent grades and extra curricular but a terrible SAT.

Same here Lisa MK, although for Wellesley my SAT and grades are all competitive I know that being an international asking for aid throws away any chance of a place
