Last year, the ED applicants to Wellesley started a thread to wait together, and I thought it was a great idea to get through this suspenseful time~ so why not?

I just want to start by saying: good luck, everyone! :)

Hi there!
Ahh, I’m new here so I don’t know what to talk about in a thread like this. How about sharing our reasons for applying to Wellesley?

I will start.

I am an international student from a prestigious high school in Asia. I was going to ED to Duke or Northwestern, depending on my Oct SAT scores until one day I woke up and thought that a LAC would be better for me! Yeah, I have to admit that applying abroad, especially from a high school where half of the graduating class is looking at applying to top American colleges, I am experiencing a lot of peer pressure. So here the idea is “better” students go to “better” universitites (basically, higher ranked and bigger name); and many people here apply ED to a school that is a reach for them or they can get FAs from those schools (as you know, many schools are not need-blind to international students.) I was one of the students - applying to Duke, which would be a super reach for me if I don’t do it under ED round; but then I just came to find out that a LAC could maybe add more to my college experience!

So I consulted my counselor and she said if I wanted to do LAC, I would have a good shot at Wellesley and Middlebury. I have looked at both schools but I thought they were both… so intense (Middlebury was on the list of “students study the most”, and Wellesley, from what I heard here, which may not be accurate, is pretty competitive.) However, I came to think that a women’s college has a lot to offer. Many of my friends in high schools are guys and I have to admit that boys are part of my life (not necessarily boy-girl-relationship, but I always learn a lot from guys.) I think I want to challenge myself on this and find girls that share the same opinions as I do!

My family makes well below $60000 and it will be a burden on my family but I didn’t apply for FA to Wellesley because first of all, international students are not allowed to under ED round; and second, the FA during RD round is too competitive. I really appreciate my family for being so supportive, unlike many other Asian parents decide everything for their kids. They don’t care about ranking if I don’t, they are willing to spend everything on my education and borrow money from friends. I hope that I am able to make enough out of my college experience abroad and oneday give them a better life.

I am also a new member on CC and I applied to Wellesley ED as well. Thanks for starting the thread SinFused, I think it’s a great idea to try to get through this together. As to why I applied to Wellesley, there are just too many reasons. I really like the campus, the small class size, office hours, and its proximity to Boston. The list can go on forever!

It’s nice to meet all of you! I live in Germany and am from New Orleans. I LOVE WELLESLEY! I don’t know how likely it is that I am to get in-especially after seein posts by people who mae 800’s on SAT subject tests…Nerves, you know the drill.

I chose Wellesley because of the university resources while being a small liberal arts college, the whole all-girls school thingy/aspect, the diveristy, proximity to boston, and immense amount of opportunities.

And just so that way I don’t feel so alone…does anyone else feel like a dork looking up Wellesley ACT and SAT scores pretty much 24/7? lol :P

I guess I love Wellesley with the same reason ya’ll do!! The idea of sisterhood is just so endearing The amount of resources and attention Wellesley offers to its students are incredible, too~~

Have all of you visited the campus? it’s gorgeous!

Don’t worry Katarina, I feel the same way~ everytime I think of the ED decision, I feel like fainting haha my scores are mid-range so…yup, i’m pretty nervous on that part~

now after submitting the app, I feel so powerless haha it’s like all your years of work are now out of your hands and are being judged after the push of a few virtual buttons D:
do you get what i mean?

@11Wangs I know how you feel, I’m an Asian immigrant and I totally understand the crazy Asian expectations haha
My parents told me to apply to big-name colleges like Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Berkeley.etc but i told them that for me, it is not about the “name”, it’s about how the school suits me and if I can see myself thrive in the community or not~~
Plus for me Wellesley IS a big-name school! I mean look at its awesome alums: Hillary Clinton, Madame Chiang, Madaleine Albright, Ali Mcgraw…etc the list goes on! :)

I didn’t submit anything extra besides what was required. I constantly look up Wellesley stats as well and even though my stats are not nearly as good, I’m still hopeful. My GPA is the weakest part of my application, but I hope other components can make up for it.

I think the decision comes out on Dec. 10 by email? Can anyone confirm that?

I have a 90.2 since my school’s GPA is on a 100 point scale. After reading threads from previous years, I thought my GPA is low compared to other students who apply every year. My guidance counselor said that as long as you are around the range of the school it should be okay. But I guess weak for Wellesley would be below an 85? I’m probably wrong since there are definitely people who got in with an 85.

I’ve heard it was Dec 15 as well, but I’m not 100% sure since apparently some people got their notice Dec 11 last year~

I also did the arts supplement! mine was studio art I was also rushing to get everything mailed off yesterday b/c common app was having some glitches with the supplements.

I didn’t do any supplements… how many rec letters did you guys send to Wellesley?
I sent 1 counselor+ 4 teachers+ 1 additional from my host father
And does anyone know when we will get the e-mail with the password to check application status?

My daughter sent two from teachers, one from her counselor and one from her voice teacher (a requirement for her Arts Supplement). Her counselor told her it wasn’t good to send more than the colleges ask for.

Yeah my counselor told me that too, but consider that I am international student that spent a year in the states as an exchange student, things get a bit different, haha. I got two letters from my two high schools. And on common app, Wellesley accepts up to 6 rec letters so I think that would be okay.

Yes, I understand your situation is different from my daughter’s. In your case, I think the letter from the host family could be a great addition to your other documentation. Having lived with them for a year, they will know you well and can attest to your well-manneredness, adaptability, etc.

Yeah i feel like I can’t wait that long lol I have to look at my planner every single day and have planned a whole bunch of activities to distract myself…
but then I would still be obsessed with CC, Wellesley’s website, Wellesleyfml, youtubing Wellesley vids.

what activities are you girls planning to join? :)

personally, I’m really excited for ultimate frisbee (whiptails), outing club, dorm crew, International Relations council~

I applied ED to Wellesley too!
I’m worried though. My SAT scores are not that high, although I do have a lot of quality extra curricular activities.
One of my best friends also applied there ED. I would be devastated if she got in and I didn’t.
Does anyone know the ED acceptance rate for Wellesley?

I think the rate is around 50% which is a lot better than the regular 36%. Don’t worry, I have pretty low SAT II scores. Hopefully good ecs would help. I wonder how many applied this year, since it’s usually around 200 people.

50% is actually pretty high.
I’m betting that it will go down this year because applicants are increasing every year.
What is the average SAT I score for Wellesley?
I got 2120 and I don’t think that’s high enough…
