Wellesley ED/RD?

Hey guys!

I recently visited Wellesley College and LOVED IT :D
I was wondering, what are my chances for Wellesley, both ED and RD?

Here are my stats:

SAT I: 2360 (760 CR, 800 M, 800 W, 11 essay), first try
SAT II: 770 US History, 760 Lit, 720 Math 2 (might retake); plan on taking Spanish with Listening this fall
Unweighted GPA: 3.97 out of 4.0
Rank: No official rank, but I estimate at least top 20 out of roughly 450 kids in my grade
AP: 5 Lit (self-studied), 5 APUSH

Besides a couple AP classes, my school doesn't let you take AP classes until senior year (unless you are somehow ahead of everyone else, like if you have taken outside courses or have moved from a different school). It's rare for someone at my school to take many AP classes, just because honors classes tend to be just as rigorous as AP, and most students are busy with extracurriculars.

Senior Year Course Load:[ul]
[] AP BC Calc
[] AP Chem
[] AP Spanish
[] Honors Euro Lit (hardest English class at my school; there's no AP English class)
[] Unleveled alternative math class (just an interesting elective I wanted to try; you learn about math and how it applies to the real world, music, art, etc; taught my junior year math teacher who I LOVE)
[] Advanced Modern/Jazz Dance
[/ul]
Major Awards:[ul]
[] Princeton Book Award (only recipient in my school)
[] National Spanish Exam medalist (grade 8: gold, grade 9: silver, grade 10: silver, grade 11: bronze)
[] Likely National Merit Semifinalist/Finalist (PSAT score was 234)
[] Likely National Honors Society inductee
[/ul]
Extracurriculars:[ul]
[] Dance (since grade 9)
[] Member of Legislature and Student Council (elected by students, grades 9-11), probably will get elected next year too; co-chair of Student Council (elected by students, grades 10-11)
[] Trumpet (since 4th grade)
[] Concert band (grades 10-12); member of the band board (appointed by the band conductor, grade 12)
[/ul]
Volunteer/Community service:[ul]
[] Coach at school's writing center (appointed by English teacher, very selective program, grade 12)
[] Math tutor at local elementary school (grades 10-12)
[] Mentor in advisory program for underclassmen (selective program, grades 11-12)
[/ul]
Summer Activities:[ul]
[] Acting program at film academy (before grade 10)
[] Lead roles in schools' summer musicals (before grades 10 and 11)
[] Creative writing class at top university (before grade 12)
[/ul]
I know these lists don't look very long, but most kids at my school only do a few extracurriculars and really dedicate themselves to them. We don't have any honor society clubs (NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, etc.), and I don't know anybody in my school who got any national awards like Intel.

Essays: I'm very confident in my writing abilities, and I have a pretty awesome idea for my essay, if I do say so myself ;)
Teacher Recommendations: My teacher recs are from my junior year English and Math classes, the two classes in which I participated the most and was always a leader in class discussions, and I have great relationships with both teachers. Because I got all A's junior year except an A- in math, my math teacher can explain that even though I struggled a bit in the middle of the year in her class, I'm still an extremely hard worker, a strong mathematician, etc.
Counselor Rec: My counselor has a bunch of students, so we don't have a super personal relationship, but he definitely likes me.
Supplemental Materials: I'm going to submit a short fiction sample that I wrote this summer in my creative writing class and that my professor and fellow students really loved.

Applying for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Not 100% sure, but since I want to go into law, it might be philosophy, psychology, or English, or maybe a double major/major-minor
State: MA
School Type: Public, top-10 public high school in MA
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female

Thanks for reading this long post everyone! Please chance me and I'll chance back ASAP! :)

I think you definitely have a good shot! Just make sure your letter of recs mention the details about lack of AP courses, and you should be set. Chance me back?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1534659-chances-rising-junior.html

Thanks for the input! I just chanced you back.

Also just FYI, every high school in the US send a school profile with your applications, which–among other things–will note how many APs are offered and if there are any restrictions for APs based on grade. :)

Wow, you have killer scores and transcript. I honestly don’t see the point of taking SAT 2 a second time. Besides that, your extra-curriculars and other activities are pretty good too. You just need to get the essay and recommendations going your way and it should be all. Since we’re talking specifically about Wellesley here, I would definitely suggest it as a High-Match for ED and a Low-Reach for RD. Hope that helps!

If you are 100% sure that Wellesley is the school you would love to attend, do a net price calculator with your parents, their bank info and tax returns in hand. Be sure they are on board with your plan. ED means you will be locked into Wellesley, no chance of looking at merit awards elsewhere, or need-based aid elsewhere (you excellent stats give you lots of options). Since Wellesley is need-based chances are the estimate will probably be true to what your actual financial aid package would be.

If you are lucky enough to not need fin aid, it’s not an issue. But do be sure to do the calculator and to talk this over with your parents.

Once you get the green light you should also check in with your GC (you may have to sign something).

Skipping over all the hassle of other apps would be nice, wouldn’t it? Just be 100% sure you don’t want to try Smith, Bryn Mawr, etc.

Congrats on your achievements during HS and enjoy whatever wonderful college you end up attending!

Thanks so much, KingintheNorth! Love the username! :D

momcinco: I really appreciate the advice! I’m not 100% sure yet… I also really love Harvard, so most likely I’ll apply to Harvard EA and to Wellesley RD (and obviously to other schools as well). So many choices!!

Bump bump!

You’ll definitely get it

Thanks AdamAshraf!! :)

Bumppppppp

Wellesley should be a match for you. I would suggest you to reach higher for ED and leave Wellesley for RD. Plus, Wellesley is need blind for US citizen so I don’t think you need to worry about Fin aid - it will not affect your result. Good luck! :)

softcalculator: Thanks a bunch! I’m planning on applying SCEA to Harvard, which I also love… Honestly, there are so many amazing schools on my list; I don’t care which one I get into!

Bump it uuuup :D

Responses?

I don’t think you need to apply ED to get into WEC–your scores and transcript are good enough as they are. If you do go the ED route, you and your GC will have to sign docs. WEC meets 100% of demonstrated financial need, so as long your parents’ EFC # is good, you should be OK. Good luck!

p.s. I agree-no need to re-take the math SAT II.
