Wellesley ED

Hi I’m a senior this year and would like advice. I want to apply to Wellesley ED.
GPA w 4.4 uw 3.75
SAT 1440
SAT chem 760
AP tests were all 4s (English, physics, music theory)
Currently taking AP chem and AP bio
EC
Modern dance
Upright bass
Model UN
School newspaper
NHS
I’d like to major in chemistry.
Chances? Am I a better fit elsewhere?

Wow. I would think you are a solid fit. I have been thinking a lot about Wellesley myself. When we attended the info session the admin person told us that they always have to turn away some exceptional applicants but they like to see well-rounded applicants who have challenged themselves.

You say your EC’s are not that strong, but playing a sport takes a lot of time and if you are in fact a top recruit, that more than explains what you do with your time.

From what I can see, your GPA isn’t really low at all, especially given the heavy course load. It seems a lot of Wellesley students also take a lot of AP’s - I will have 16 when I am done, but they said what they care about is are you challenging yourself with what is offered at your school? Some schools only offer a few AP classes. Is your class rank in the top ten percent? If so, I think you are a shoe-in.

I am thinking about applying ED as well - maybe we will become “sisters”

If Wellesley is your top choice, do it!

I see from your other threads that you possibly will be recruited for golf at Amherst or Dartmouth. With Wellesley you have 3 great choices and cannot go wrong. For girls Amherst is very very difficult to get into given its size. Wellesley has an amazing location and awesome resources. Good luck!

Your stats look good. It doesn’t look like you have a weak spot. Spend lots of time on your essays and have someone else read through them for both content and grammar before you turn them in. That’s all I’ve got off the top of my head.

I’m excited too!

Hi! Did you apply under the ED 1 deadline or are you planning to apply as ED 2?

I applied under ED 1.

You can see the most recent ED admission stats here http://www.wellesley.edu/sites/default/files/assets/departments/admission/pdf/admission_report2016.pdf

45% is higher than I thought!

I think it was 44% the year earlier. But I think this year it may be more selective. It is possible that Hillary Clinton running for president may have motivated many more students to apply, and many more to apply ED. We probably will not know until the April when RD results are out.

That’s true. It’ll be interesting to see the stats. Hopefully the election won’t have too much of an impact… :-<

Finger crosssed ^:)^

Only 13 days left!!! @-)

1st Marking Period Grades have been sent. Now we hurry up and wait.

Gah, the wait until next Thursday is killing me! How are you guys doing?

I’m so so so nervous and getting more and more convinced that I cannot get in…
Best of luck to all the ladies here:)

What are you guys planning to major in? (I’m going for Art/Art History)

Hi! Wellesley ED?

Stats:

SAT: 2330 (800 math, 800 CR, 730 writing)
SAT Subjects: Chemistry (750), Math Level 2 (750) and US History (780)
GPA: unweighted: 91/100, weighted: 94/100
AP Scores: 5 AP English, 5 APUSH, 3 Chem, 3 Calc AB

Senior Year Schedule: 5 AP’s
Total AP’s: 10

EC’s:
-MUN Debate Moderator
-NHS
-Camp Volunteer (100 hours)
-Science Olympiad Regional Team
-Newspaper Writer
-Peer Leader
-Golf Team Captain

Rec Letters: APUSH teacher close with her, close with counselor, not so close with calc teacher

Hooks: one of top recruits for sport at Wellesley

Strengths: test scores, athlete
Weaknesses: not that strong EC’s because 98% time playing my sport, GPA is a little low

As decision day approaches, I just thought it would be nice for us ED Wellesley girls to have someplace to vent and have discussions.
(Am I the only one who’s excited and terrified beyond belief right now?)
