[] SAT I (breakdown): 670 CR, 680 M, 730 W : 2080. Did not submit, but they were printed on the back of my transcript and listed on MyWellesley account, so I suppose admissions used it.

[] Counselor Rec: Great!
[] Additional Rec: Great! focused mostly on my leadership/journalism skills, and was more personal.

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/517

Job/Work Experience:
Volunteer/Community service: Teach an ESL class for working adults, work slave at my camp one summer
Summer Activities: Camp
Essays: My CommonApp was pretty risky and personal; I thought it was good. It could have definitely used more revision and time, though. I was somewhat concerned about the Why Wellesley because it wasn’t specific at all, but, looking back on it, I think it really reflected my love for the college and the beauty of an all-women environment.
Teacher Recommendation: One was really, really lovely and the other was simply very good.
Counselor Rec: This is her first year dealing with seniors, so I’m sure it wasn’t stellar. I have been in her office more than I’d care to admit, so hopefully it was personal by large-public-school standards.
Additional Rec:
Interview: Missed the deadline

Other
State (if domestic applicant): TX
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Ranking public
Ethnicity: Half Hispanic, half white
Gender: You’ll have to figure that one out.
Income Bracket: $100,000+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, interesting accomplishments that weren’t nicely ensconsed in extra-curriculars, academics, etc.

Reflection
Strengths: Academics, essays, recommendations
Weaknesses: Test scores, no interview, mediocre ECs
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: A divine power most love me, and I truly think Wellesley and I would be wonderful mates.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at University of Texas at Austin Liberal Arts Honors, waiting on three more schools

General Comments: I am so thrilled about the exciting news! I hope everyone on here ends up at a place they love! To those that didn’t receive good news, I had a similar, diluted experience when applying to high school. I wanted to go to this prestigious private school, slaved on my application (as if middle-school me did anything noteworthy), and was met with a rejection. I ended up going to my neighborhood public school and met amazing people while also growing so much personally and intellectually. Even though you may not hear the news you want, you will end up at the right place for you.

[] Teacher Recommendation: Okay.
[] Counselor Rec: Large public school, so average. Counselor doesn’t know me at all.
[] Additional Rec: From my GSA advisor/ senior year AP Lang and Comp teacher. Apparently my teacher wrote “undercover goddess” on the rec. She’s a good writer and quirky like that. She’s known me for 4 years and is honestly one of the most inspiring teachers and adults I’ve ever met.
[li] Interview: First interview ever. I was so nervous, I just kept rambling. Interviewer noted that I was rocky in the beginning but got better at the end. I’m not shy but I’m not talkative, and I know I’m awkward. P:[/li]But don’t sweat the Wellesley interview. ;)

[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred at Barnard, Accepted to Rutgers

[/ul]General Comments:[list] Congrats everyone! If you didn’t get good news, sorry, I know from experience that it sucks. Hang in there.

[] Essays: common app was about my growth and developing my identity as a woman, i thought it was pretty good. the supplement was nice, too, but not unique or creative. just straightforward.
[] Teacher Recommendation: i only got to read one, but i’m sure they were both really nice, i know my teachers pretty well.
[] Counselor Rec: i’m sure it was okay. no one’s a huge fan of the guidance department at my school, so who knows.
[] Additional Rec: a reallyyy nice letter from my art teacher that i sent with an arts supplement

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My independence and work ethic
[] Weaknesses: My lack of extracurriculars, and one of my friends suspects that Wellesley wouldn’t be a good personality fit anyway. The D I earned in Honors Algebra II junior year.
[] Why you think you were given a “possible”?: I think it’s obvious I’d be a great academic fit for Wellesley, but the D on my transcript makes them hesitant (even though I’m doing very well and on an upward slope in FST this year), and they wonder if I’ll contribute to the community or hide in my room all day.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected from the University of Cambridge, accepted into Hillsdale College, Simmons College, UMBC, University of Alabama, Sewanee, and Macalester College

[/ul]General Comments: I’m incredibly disappointed. :frowning: Wellesley is, along with Smith, my first choice. I suspect I’ll be eventually rejected - there are other Possibles who are better fits in every way - which will be a blow because I’ve already been rejected from my dream school.

Decision: Likely

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2370 (800 CR, 770 M, 800 W)
[] SAT II: 760 Math II, 790 Literature, 740 US History

[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Gay-Straight Alliance (head), Math Club, Literary Magazine, Writing Center, Peer Tutoring, Varsity Crew (captain, numerous local & national medals, Junior National Team training camp, etc…)
[] Job/Work Experience: Mostly babysitting, some computer work.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Tutoring, neighborhood cleanup, lots of fundraising through rowing, administrative work in a doctor’s office, library work.
[] Summer Activities: 4 years of CTY, 1 year of a biomed program, 1 year of crew camp.
[] Essays: I wasn’t really sure about it, but I just got a handwritten note from an admissions officer saying it was one of the best she’d read this year… then again, maybe all the likelies got that. My “Why Wellesley” was sort of boring, but I think I made a good case for women’s colleges. I come from a girls’ school, so I had a lot to say on the matter.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Both should have been excellent. I didn’t read them.
[] Counselor Rec: Also didn’t read it. I don’t think my counselor likes me.
[] Interview: Not so good. It was my first college interview ever. I had it on campus over the summer. It was totally boring, and my interviewer and I had nothing in common whatsoever.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): PA
[] School Type: small, private, all girls
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: F
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): semi-recruited athlete. I had some contact with the rowing coach, and she said she wrote to the admissions office on my behalf.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I come from a girls’ school and have had a lot of experience with (and appreciation for!) women’s education. I think that came across in my essays. Also, the recruitment thing was probably helpful. Also, SATs?
[] Weaknesses: My freshman and sophomore grades stunk, and my extracurriculars aren’t very interesting.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: see strengths.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I got an early write from Smith last week. I was deferred from Yale EA.

[/ul]General Comments: I LOVE Wellesley. There is a very good chance that I will decide to go there. I’m super excited!

iteotwawki, if you attend Wellesley, are you planning to row?

My d is very excited about the crew team!

If I go to Wellesley I probably will row, though it will depend on how I feel by the end of this season. If I decide to row I’m going to have to train during the summer… urgh.

I’ve heard great things about the team, though, and DIII seems ideal for me.

iteotwaki - did you mean urgh or erg?? :)

Is it bad I didn’t get an EE letter/email yet? :/

Everyone needs to relax. I was accepted ED to Wellesley.
My SAT scores were 1790. ACT 25. I had A LOT of extracurriculars including being a three season varsity athlete. I had a lot of community service and a killer essay. I read all of my recommendations and I wouldn’t change a thing about any of them. I had very close relationships with everyone who wrote me one. I had five recs. My parents found it hard to believe that all of those five people were writing about me. hahaha

Anyways, a 2000 SAT score isn’t a weakness. Honestly, standardized test scores are becoming and more extant. What I’m trying to say is that a 2000 SAT score isn’t going to be the factor that prevents and acceptance.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. If I could do it, anyone of you can.
