Is this true, if so, now I'm seriously worried.

I think it depends. I know a couple girls there who aren't mathematically or scientifically inclined at all, but as it is a women's liberal arts college, being a "math" or "science" person probably helps you stand out a little bit. I remember that when I interviewed at Bryn Mawr, the interviewer was very much impressed that I was taking AP Calc and Physics.

If I took AP Bio and am now taking AP Calc, but I did dismally on the SAT math portion, does that hurt my chances?

I don't think that Wellesley favors "math/science" kids -- rather the college favors passionate students. They definitely encourage women interested in the sciences and maths here simply because that field is dominated by men, but you don't HAVE to be a woman in the maths/sciences.

As far as stats go, just aim to have your SAT math scores within the average of Wellesley's SAT math scores. (The SAT math mean for class of 2012 was 677...) I can relate: The SAT math was the bane of my existence -- I'm a prospective English major, and I swear that I struggled with basic reading comprehension of the stupid math problems. If you're taking Calc, I'm assuming you're (at least) decent at math. As you probably already know, the difficulty of SAT math problems isn't really in the calculations. It's the little tricks they play. Just study and practice, practice, practice the math techniques to bring up that score! Hope that helps...

During my interview, the fact that Wellesley wants girls who are good at math and science was brought up. During the one college fair visit on Wellesley that I attended, it was brought up as well. After I got an 'unlikely', I asked an alum what the holes in my application were and she said 'well, all I can think is...math.' So, take that as you will. It's fully possible that I just happen to have had a skewered experience that is very different for most peeps, but heh, I've found that being a girl with severe limitations in areas outside of the humanities has hurt me quite a bit, regardless of my major(s) of choice.

Still, don't let it keep everyone from applying/attending! I'm sure there are plenty of girls at Wells who managed to slip in despite a mediocre record with calculators and labs. ;)
