Wellesley Interview!

Hello everyone,

I'm applying to WC as a Fall '11 transfer student (originally I was going to apply for the Spring term, but they're not accepting transfer applicants). Well, I'm extremely nervous, so I thought you guys could give me some tips on how to win my interviewer over (hopefully something better than "dress to impress!"). It's with a "young alumna," as the email said.

Thanks in advance!

I had an alumni interviewer as a prospective transfer student. I don’t know if I’m a good one to give you advice, because I thought my interview went terribly, but everything worked out in the end  I found that transfer interviews were a little bit more focused than interviews I had as a senior in high school. It’s not just a “why Wellesley?” but a “since you are a college student you have a better idea what you want, so how will Wellesley help you achieve your goals? (while walking the line of not insulting your current institution).” I would suggest thoroughly looking over the Wellesley website so you will have specific things to talk about. Also, I would come in with a few questions about Wellesley for your interviewer. (I used a quote or two from my interview for my “Why Wellesley?” essay.)

Feel free to PM me if you have any transfer- specific questions.

Also, no spring transfer students? I guess that’s part of Wellesley’s solution for the housing crunch.

Good luck! I’m sure you will be fine!

Thanks for your comment, college_ruled.

So that’s why they’re not accepting Spring transfers…
I wanted to ask but didn’t want to pry either.

Also, was your interviwer young? The woman interviewing me graduated in '08, so I’m a bit more nervous because I feel she won’t ask me the questions I’ve practiced. What if she asks me to orally give her a 3 minute speech on my opinion of the oil spill? haha. Obviously I’m exaggerating, but I just can’t imagine how this will go.

In the email she said it was just a casual interview about my college experience thus far and Wellesley, but I’m still really nervous. Especially considering how socially awkward I am.
