Wellesley or Middlebury?

I am looking at Environmental Studies and International Relations (in Midd's case, it's called International Politics and Economics) majors in both schools.

Adv Midd:
1. Very good Enviro Studies program
2. The great Lang Sch
3. Great food I heard!
4. Hot guys available

Disadv Midd:
1. Too remote, difficut to get out or get in
2. Too cold
3. Not as famous internationally as Wellesley

Adv Wellesley:
1. IR good?
2. Famous
3. Accessible to Boston, Harvard and MIT

Disadv Wellesley:
1. All girls (not sure if I can handle that)
2. Too cold (maybe a little bit better than Midd?)

If anyone has the chance to experience both schs, pls let me know which one you think is better!!!

I’m not sure what you mean by saying that Wellesley is more “famous” than Middlebury??? Both schools have excellent reputations and neither is “better” for every student. Have you visited them both?

You’d have cold winter at both schools, so don’t let that be a deciding factor.

Middlebury’s best known programs are in international studies, languages, English/writing, and environmental studies.

As for remoteness–yes, Middlebury is in a rural location while Wellesley is suburban. But Burlington Internation Airport has daily non-stop flights from Chicago, Atlanta, New York City, Boston, Washington DC, and other U.S. cities. Campus is about 45 minutes from the airport by car.

Well, you seem to have made your decision already… it seems that your Middlebury list boasts much better pros than your Wellesley list.

Interestingly enough, these two schools were my top two when I was applying (last year). I ultimately chose Middlebury, applied ED, and was accepted as a Feb. I could not be happier!

On the subject of happiness, I did an overnight stay at Wellesley and the general haughtiness and competitiveness of the student body was revealed to me. Everyone I’ve met here at Middlebury is much happier, and we’re engaged in a much healthier academic atmosphere.

A couple of quick things: I’m from an Italian family (great home cooking) and I must say that I truly enjoy the food here at Midd! Also, for your majors, you would be much better off at Midd, for the two programs mentioned are Midd’s strongest. And the remote landscape? You’ll forget all about it once you watch a sunset over the Green Mountains during dinner at Ross. :)

As someone who attended a women’s college (and transferred) I would highly recommend a co-ed environment! Midd’s a great school!
