Wellesley RD........

I GOT IN!!! HOORAY!!!!

No money, but I got a nice little letter worth $2500 from the National Merit people today, so that sort of made up for it :)

The 2nd paragraph of the acceptance letter, about everything all the admits have done, is outstanding! It's an honor to (possibly) join all of you!

I GOT IN! But my mom took my letter so I haven't read/seen it yet. It's awesome though! Yayyyy!

i got in but not enough financial aid... time to beg for some more money!

otherwise it's state school for me :(

I'm a bit upset, so I'll just copy what I wrote in the official "Acceptances..." thread...

I just received my acceptance letter from Wellesley. They added a handwritten note at the bottom -- "We enjoyed your essay and admire your resilience and adaptability" -- which was sweet, but the financial aid package is such that it would be impossible for me to attend. It's bittersweet, I guess. At least I'm 2/2 for acceptances with eight decisions still to come.

Wellesley gave my family a $42,000 EFC to Bryn Mawr's $22,260 (which really is still too high). Of the two, I would've chosen Wellesley, but there really is no way.

Accepted!!!!

Congrats everyone.
Wow cameliasinensis...that's a huge difference. Is it very far from what FAFSA predicted?

Congrats camelia. Sucks about the financial aid though.

camelia, you should really appeal your award to Wellesley. I mean, a $5000 or even $10,000 gap in finaid awards is not unheard of, but a $20,000 gap is really huge and weird. It seems like there just must have been something that Wellesley missed. Give it a go--who knows what might happen.

The rejection or "We are sorry to tell you that we can not place you in the class of 2011" was in a regular envelope. =/ I really want to go to Wellesley. =[ It has everything I need. FRIENDLY PEOPLE! Good teachers! Relax environment for me! Good food! =[[[[ Man, what should I do? 3 more to go.

I'm not a US citizen, so we had to fill out the international CSS, whatever that's called. My family's financial situation is really bizarre and will inevitably get much worse next year, since both my parents are not only between jobs, but buying their first house (we've rented or lived in employer-sponsored housing in various countries all my life). It's a real mess. We might manage $20,000 with considerable sacrifice and debt, but $42,000? It'd be funny if it weren't so depressing. It's that unrealistic.

Well then you should definitely contact the colleges about it. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the support. :) Like I said in the other thread, "I'm going to wait until the week is over... then I'll decide if I need to have a nervous breakdown." I'm waiting for eight more decisions (most of which are major reaches that I'm not really counting on getting into), then negotiations will begin.

I just got accepted today. In February, I received a "possibly" letter. The acceptance letter wasn't that much of a surprise though because when I saw the Class of 2011 website and read that an accordion player had been accepted, I figured they were talking to me...

no jimbob i didn't apply early evaluation... i procrastinated with my supplement/"why i want to go to wellelsey" thing...but if was worth it because it took me two hours to write 129 words that i think definitely helped me in the long run

I'm in the same boat as you Faelivren. I got so excited flipping through my Wellesley envelope, but they're giving me absolutely no financial aid, whereas I've got a scholarship at our state school. It really sucks because I want to go to Wellesley, but I don't think my parents will let me purely because of money.

dude..i totally know what you mean...i have a full ride to go a state school and my parents are already paying $40K for my older brother(who's in this 6 year competitive pharmacy program) but then again...i am going to pay them back...and plus IT'S WELLESLEY...by the way does anyone know wellesley's rank among other colleges/universities? (my parents are dying to know...)

Wow babanana I am sort of in the same predicament. I also have a full ride for my state school, but it's Wellesley...and sadly it doesn't seem like I'll be getting much.

But I'm just so glad I got into Wellesley!

i think wellesley is 4th for liberal arts colleges (behind only williams, amherst, and swarthmore) which makes it all the more amazing. eee!

babanana, for your rank conscious parents, Wellesley is #4 on the LAC list, losing out only to Williams, Amherst, and Swarthmore. Not too shabby!!

D'oh!! LunarChik and I cross posted. Oh well--we're just that good!

As LunarChik mentioned, it really is an honor to have been gained admission alongside so many talented women. All those accomplishments...I want to meet the girl who co-authored that microbiology paper!
