Wellesley vs Bryn Mawr

Hi all

So I’m trying to decide whether to apply ED2 to Wellesley or Bryn Mawr.

I want to major in psychology and neuroscience.

I’ve visited both campuses, and loved them both. I think they’re about equal in my overall liking of each college.

In terms of test scores, I have a 34 on the ACT and a 1430 on the SAT. My GPA is 3.77 unweighted.

My junior year, however, is mostly pass/failed. I’m worried that may hurt me. I was out of schools for a month and couldnt catch up in time.

I don’t have a lot of clubs or activities. I take choir, sing a lot, and am in an acapella group. I’ve also played violin for 10 years. I spent a summer interning in a bio lab at Case Western. Other than that, I don’t have much.

I spend most of my free time doing research on the neurobiology/neurochemistry if bulimia and working on my 18k piece puzzle.

So, what college would you suggest? Do I have a chance of getting into both of them/ one of them?

Thanks

Both are excellent. But I would suggest that Bryn Mawr would be the more accessible to you. And since they are equal for you, I would use the ed 2 advantage there.

Congrats on the success and hope you find a great school.

You sound perfect for both schools, but in different ways. To my mind Wellesley is for students who want to overtly compete, sometimes with each other, and strive strive strive. Bryn Mawr is for the more contemplative intellectual, a community of scholars with the emphasis on community, very ambitious, but satisfied with her own achievements, and doesn’t have to weigh them against those of others. Wellesley is #25 in producing ph.d. candidates while Bryn Mawr is #18 fwiw.

I personally hope that you join Bryn Mawr because of its –

  • inclination for empower women intellectuals
  • amazing architecture that really can't be over described
  • traditions that seem to create community
  • consortium with several other top schools -- allowing you a base for feeling at home while then branching out as you feel will benefit you
  • self-scheduled exams and honor code -- the relaxed atmosphere of the campus.
