Can anyone provide insight on how best to be admitted off Wellesley’s wait list?
It would be especially helpful to hear from anyone who’s been admitted off Wellesley’s wait list. If you have, when (May? June? July?) did you hear the good news.

You might have already read this, but I found it helpful. I’m in the same boat you are right now too.
My D was waitlisted to Wellesley. She sent in additional items (won some awards after her application had been sent in) and let the admission office know if she was admitted, she would attend. She received a phone call in early June offering her a spot off the waitlist. She has now graduated from Wellesley.
Hello everyone -
I currently attend Wellesley and was waitlisted last year. First off - it’s tough being stuck in limbo, but if Wellesley really is your dream school, don’t give up easy. Now’s your time to show admissions that you really deserve a place and that you have something truly unique to bring to campus. It’s up to you to figure out how to convey that message.
When I was waitlisted, I contacted the alumnae assigned to interview me since I hadn’t sat for the optional interview. I met with her and she wrote me a recommendation. I also met with another alumnae who was in town and she wrote a recommendation. I sent in one of my mock exams that I was particularly proud of, as well as a written assignment. Finally, I wrote them a personal letter conveying my interest.
An admissions officer called me in early May to let me know I was off the waitlist.
Good luck to everyone!! You’ve got this
Hey!
I’ve also been wait listed from Wellesley College I’m really hoping to pull my strings to attend next year because honestly it sounds PHENOMENAL.
Best of luck to the both of us! Let me know if you get in ~
@CeenCat Thank you! When you wrote your letter, did you address it to the admissions counselor for you area, or to the admissions committee as a whole?
@chocolatexc I sent everything to admission@wellesley.edu. They added what I sent to my file.
Hi!
I just have two simple questions:
Does Wellesley starts reviewing wait-listed applicants after May 1st?
Would it be too late if I send an additional letter (through email) within next week? OR will I be fine?
SOMEONE ANSWER PLEASE and thanks for your help!
@ihihihi
Hi! I think I can help
I hope this helps and good luck!!!
It’s actually better to send in the supplements as late as possible, so they are fresh on the admissions officer’s minds. Just don’t miss the deadline.
So what are you guys all planning to do? Are you guys just going to send letters? (Kinda worried because I don’t have much done during senior second semester for extracurriculars…)
@ihihihi I’m just planning to send in a letter of continued interest with mention of things that I’ve been doing since I submitted my application back in January. I’ve also asked my AP Literature teacher if she could write an additional letter of recommendation (she’s a Wellesley alum). I applied for a scholarship too, so if I get to be a finalist, I’ll add that. However, I don’t think I’m going to send in my additional materials until like the end of the week.
Just a quick question - probably all applicants will indicate that they’re still interested in going to Wellesley if they get off the waitlist, right? But this doesn’t mean that you HAVE TO attend the college even if you get off the waitlist, right?? (Since it’s not binding??)
No, you get a small amount of time to decide if you are going to accept the offer. My D told Wellesley that IF she was admitted off the waitlist, she WOULD attend, but only tell them that if it’s 100% true. An offer off the waitlist is not binding.
@college_query just curious- what would happen if you initially say that you’ll attend if you get off the waitlist but later decline the waitlist offer (maybe because you’ve found something interesting in the school youve been accepted and so decide to enroll there after sending the letter?)
I imagine they’d be annoyed? For us, since we KNEW it was her first choice, she mentioned it in her submission of additional materials in an attempt to persuade Wellesley to admit her. If something changed and she was no longer able to accept an offer of admission, we would have declined the offer and explained the change. But it is not like applying Early Admission. It is not binding.
did you guys put a lot of additional extracurricular activities? I just included one that I thought was a new aspect of one of my extracurricular activities… I included my interest though…
just a quick question - is it not allowed if i put my name on waitlists for several schools? (i have only been sending updates to wellesley)
You can put your name on multiple waitlists.
do they check materials before may 1st ?? I still have things to send in …
