Wellesley?

This is a link to the Rolling Stone article The Highly Charged Erotic Life of a Wellesley Woman.

http://www.jaydixit.com/writing/wellesley.htm

It's one of my top 2 schools and I'm pretty freaked out by the article. Should I be?

I posted this article here instead of on the Wellesley forum because I thought it was more likely I'd get unbiased answers.

Thanks!

that...is...insane...

my new goal in life is to be a tenured wellesley professor.

ahha.

As at every college, you will find girls here who are very liberal.

However, that article does not reflect upon Wellesley at the least.

Thank you. Do you go to Wellesley?

Yes, I do.

scary article...

Yikes......

wow and damn......
i like.. applied to Wellesley????? so this article is making me think quite a bit.
but is this really, really true?? cuz if it is, then it's kinda scary...

haha, I got an unlikely letter today, so it's making me feel a lot better

why is that scary? it's not like wellesley invented affairs with professors; were you shocked by "mona lisa smile"? and the idea of becoming a lesbian for your time at school isn't new either.
wellesley is still a fantastic college in terms of both academics and the personal relationships formed by its students. just because some students are "sexually confident" as that article put it doesnt mean all of them are, and it doesnt mean you will come out of wellesley a sex addict. there are adventurous women at every college.

yes I'm aware of that scarfmadness, but it seems like Wellesley has a lot more of them compared to other schools.
well, I'm still so very happy with my likely letter;)

thewholeperson, happygal, what are your stats?

mine are posted on a chances thread no one answered with wellesley in the title. search them and they should come up. sorry i'm being so lazy.

I don't see how this article is in any way scary. Would someone explain why they think so?

my new dream in life is to become a tenured wellesley professor.

where can i sign up to be the one full time male student?

It's scary because:
1. Sexual relationships between students and professors is just wrong- and constitutes a form of statutory rape in many cases.
2. It's disturbing how these women need to resort to drastic measures in order to satisfy their lust- and seem to have little or no self control.
3. Anyone who sleeps with 26 people is just icky...STDs, anyone?
4. It's disturbing how relationships are regarded as status symbols and/or ways to rebel (ex. the kitchen staff) instead of a connection between two people.
5. It's sad how sex is sought after merely for its recreational value and seems to have lost all emotional significance whatsoever.
6. It's distressing that the "liberation" of women has come to mean the "freedom to sleep around." Is the moral degeneration of both genders the only way to achieve equality?

If they're both adults, then why is it wrong? What if they're not in any way academically tied to one another? How does it matter?

Some women actually enjoy sex. Egads. Alert the press.

Can't argue that.

That's what happens when you repress women's sexuality for centuries.

This is different from the past...how?

Why is sex necessarily moral degeneration?

If they are not academically tied to one another, then it is perfectly legal, but it still seems wrong to me- just my personal opinion.

Can't argue that; however, there is something to be said for moderation.

I rest my case.

I understand the need everyone has to rebel every now and then. It just seems wrong to use other people and the pretense of a relationship in order to become "cool" or "liberated."

Just because its always been that way doesn't mean it isn't sad.

Sex itself is not moral degeneration; however sex outside of wedlock is. Again thats just my opinion, but whether or not it's right or wrong, I still cannot see how the loosening of morals brings us closer to gender equality...

shellzie...i hope i meet you somewhere so i could get rid of that opinion of yours there.
