Personally, I'm not a hardcore partier or drinker. I'm mellow and like to chill out most of the time. On the housing application I have the option to request a quiet hall or wellness hall. I'm having trouble deciding, because, if I go into either of those, will I feel stifled? But if I choose to go to a normal hall, will there be partying, loud music, and people running drunk through the hallways into the wee hours of the morning? Are the normal halls pretty balanced and tame? Or do they tend to be the antitheses of the wellness/quiet halls? I guess I just want a healthy balance. Personally, I doubt I'll be attending any major drinking/raves type events. But I don't want to feel totally secluded and excommunicated from the rest of the dorm. Is that what it's like to be in a quiet/wellness hall?

Sorry for all the questions, and slightly scattered thoughts. Thanks for the help though!

I feel exactly like you do. I’m not a big fan of drinking and am very reluctant at the idea of music and shouting at all hours. Then again, from their description, it sounds like you have to tip-toe your way around the Quiet Halls and that even a cough could be considered noise, lol. In the end, I compromized for Wellness but not Quiet, if such a thing even exists…

lol actually when i was there i talked to some of the other students about that and they said that its wasnt like crazy omg did you just drop a needle quiet. Most of then were pretty normal so i dont think it would be a bad choice to really do that. as for the other hallways i think that depends more on the dorm. (Like in lathorp the crazy drunk ppl may be true but in the others i dont think so.) I stayed over the weekend (in Jewett )and the normal halls were fine.

As a parent of a Soph. who was on a wellness floor last year…go for wellness. Your hall, remember really a small section of a larger floor, will be cleaner and quieter at night. You can go party elsewhere when you like.

I stayed in Josselyn while I was there, and we were wandering around in the middle of the night being loud as hell. Some of the folks got pretty peeved (for good reason), leaning out their windows and such. I’d say you’d be fine in a normal hall, but you could very well end up there, which would essentially guarantee you sleep deprivation. If you’re into that, go for it. How did you already get your housing application? They haven’t sent me a thing yet.

It really depends what dorm you’re talking about, in Strong (which is all-girl’s), the wellness/quiet housing is VERY quiet and they stick to the rules, but I know of a very loud, rambunctious (but no alcohol) wellness hall in Cushing, and in Joss I don’t think anyone follows the wellness or quiet rules. I’d say go for wellness - you’ll still have a good year, and you’ll be less likely to have drunk people stumbling in at odd hours of the night.
