Anyone know anything about wellness/substance-free housing at CMU?

anyone? please???

According to the housing facilities website, Henderson House is considered “wellness” housing.

Buildings&Facilities

There may be more that I am missing.

"Henderson House was renovated for residents in the Fall 2003. The fieldstone exterior remained during the renovation, which includes the addition of a third floor expanding occupancy to 60 residents. This residential housing option is also the second Silver L.E.E.D. certified building in our campus housing system. **Henderson House is home to the Wellness Housing program offered jointly by the offices of Athletics, Health Services, Housing Services, and the residential life staff.

The objective of the Wellness Housing is to add a holistic health promotion model to the traditional residence hall setting. The program is student-driven and will regularly solicit student input in all of its programmatic initiatives. Participants in the program agree to the following:

* Establish a wellness-focused community environment in Henderson House.
- Take advantage of health education initiatives and peer support opportunities provided in Henderson House and elsewhere on campus.
- Participate in at least two health education opportunities per semester sponsored in Henderson House by students or staff.
- Maintain a substance free (no alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs) environment in Henderson House for themselves and their guests.

Residents of this building are required to sign an agreement indicating individual support of the Wellness program.**"

My daughter was in the substance free housing (Henderson) freshman and sophomore year. She did not choose to be in it freshman year but that is where she got placed because she sent in her acceptance in late. She ended up liking it enough to stay for sophomore yr. It is a small dorm of 60ish students. The rooms are extremely small but VERY nice. The building was gutted a few years back and is now a green building. It has A/C which many students on campus don’t realize. The first floor is all freshman (coed) and 1 RA. The rooms are either 3 or 4 males or 3 or 4 females sharing one bathroom. Needless to say it is a fairly quiet dorm but there are a lot of social activities planned for three of the dorms that are on the hill. Since each dorm is small the joint activities make it seem bigger. There is laundry, kitchen, room with a long table for kids to study together or eat together. There is a pool table, tv, vending machines, a few treadmills etc. If you any other questions regarding Henderson (I assume that is still the substance free dorm) let me know.

This is great information. Thanks!
