D's application is being considered for a Wells Scholarship. Anyone in the program who can share some info?

D knows one Wells Scholar. She is an amazing young woman not only academically, but is an overall good person that was able to reach out to other students in HS and always seemed to have a positive attitude. I know she was very involved in several time consuming activities in HS. This young woman always impressed me with her maturity. At the same time she was well liked and respected by her classmates. Although the Wells Scholar website indicates minimum SAT scores of 1350, D's HS required scores of at least 1430 to be one of the two nominees.

D is very anxious to hear in 2 weeks if she is going to be a finalist. Her GPA and SAT/ACT scores are well above the minimum...GPA 114.66 (weighted), rank 5/445, 34 ACT, 1460 SAT, good ECs, excellent recs. I am keeping my fingers crossed for her. She loved IU when she took a class there last summer.

Good luck to your daughter!

Wow--very impressive GPA and ACT. Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks! I'll report back when we get any new info.

D did not make it to finalist.

Good luck to all who did!

Sorry to hear that. I.U. is a wonderful school and Bloomington is one of my very favorite places. Thankfully, I.U. still has great merit awards that cover at least tuition. She would get the $9,000 excellence scholarship at the least. Plus, they have the Presidential Scholarship, which I would assume she had a great chance to be nominated for. Combine that with the honors college scholarships and outside scholarships, and she may end up with everything paid for anyway. Nothing quite like free college!
I was fortunate enough to get my finalist letter this last Saturday, so its going to be a weekend of interviews for me. I'm very excited, and I.U. is a dream school for me. Unfortunately, even if I'm selected then I still have the concern of making the music school. Oh well. I'd best be practicing

bluefiend, good luck! IU's music school is phenomenal.

notan4me, sorry to hear your news. I hope your daughter is not discouraged. She has great stats and sounds like she would be a wonderful catch for whatever university she chooses.

bluefiend, good luck!
IllinoisMom, thanks!
D has already gotten the $9000 excellence scholarship, and is feverishly filling out the scholarship apps. She is rather disappointed that she is not a Wells finalist. I think that being OOS was probably a disadvantage.

Onward and upward!

Being OOS is a big disadvantage for the Wells Scholarship. Only a few select HS's outside of IN are even invited to nominate an applicant.

DD is also working on her scholarship essays. She's almost done and won't be doing any socializing this weekend until the honors app is ready.

bluefiend--good luck on the School of Music.
