My top 3 schools (USC, University of Washington, UC Berkely) ALL rejected me. I have a 3.9 weighted GPA and a 33 ACT. (36 Reading, 35 Science, 33 Math, 28 English). I also have a year’s worth of professional level interning, plenty of volunteer hours, several extracurriculars, 6APs, college classes, etc. I’m devastated, I have probably spent thousands of hours to put together a good application and everywhere I wanted to go rejected me. Will GWU/ U of M/NYU/MSU reject me too?
What major did you apply for, what were your AP scores and what was your personal statement about? Also, what is your weighted GPA? @SakuraKaminari
GW probably won’t, if U of M is Michigan it may, NYU probably won’t unless you’re applying for Stern, MSU definitely won’t. I’m guessing you were rejected from these schools bc you’re ORM and OOS for UW and UCB.
I’d say any school with an acceptance rate under 35% and even for a high stats student is a reach. Period. Always make sure you applied to some safeties. Those with higher acceptances rates, schools you actually wouldn’t mind attending and those you can afford.
It does seem like you got a bum deal. I am sorry you are so upset. Is it possible your essay wasn’t as good as it could have been? How about your teacher recs? Whatever happened, I am sure you are a great student for any college.
I am sure you will get into one of your schools, so take heart. And if you don’t, in May NACAC will publish a list of colleges still accepting students and there are a lot of great ones. These colleges have rolling admissions or haven’t made their yield for whatever reason. You WILL be going to college next year, so cheer up. You just might have to be patient a little longer.
Are you a US citizen or green card holder? You will probably get into Michigan State and GW.
Your GPA is likely the issue for top school. What is your uwGPA when your wGPA is 3.9?
ORM and OOS? Pardon?
MSU is my safety.
Applied for: Poli Sci, AP Scores (for taken APs): 3, 4, 5. Rest are being taken this year. Personal Statement: about my activism Weighted: 3.9
uwGPA is 3.5
Linda, I am unsure about my essays, essay writing has never been my strong suit, but both my AP Lit teacher and mother said they were good, after about 17 revisions lol. My recs were from 2 teachers that absolutely adore me and a michigan state legislator who I have volunteered for. I have no idea what NACAC even is lol
Citizen.
I think your uwGPA is the problem at Berkeley and USC. Sorry. Keep your chin up, this isn’t easy! If it helps at all, my son got the big envelope from a dream school only to find out they put him in a major he would never pursue with no chance of transferring to any of the ones he wants later on because they are impacted.
You are not alone in the welps.
You have 95% chance of getting into MSU. Your Act score is good for UW, USC, and Berkeley, but your uwGPA is not. Are you waiting for decisions from other schools besides MSU?
It’s the Nat. College admissions council. They publish a list of colleges that still have spaces in May.
ORM = over represented minority, OOS = out of state.
A unweighted GPA of 3.5 is a tough sale for some schools. I have the impression some schools could be a little more forgiving with scores than with GPA.
^ For the most part, yes.
I think you will be accepted MSU and probably GW, but not UM. You UW GPA quite a bit lower than the avg at those schools where you were denied.
