Hi
Four sons through the admissions gauntlet, and I thought I’d follow up with our thoughts now that everybody is actually at their schools, since we found it helpful when we were going through the process.
Eldest graduated from Rhodes College and is now off in grad school. He had a great experience there - close group of friends, enjoyed Memphis, and found his classes to be small and engaging. Safety is the big issue - campus itself is gated and walled so pretty safe but in a tough area of the city. There was a tragic incident involving a home invasion and a Rhodes student not too long ago.
Middle child at UMass Amherst. Wanted big U experience. Pre-med, crushing it academically 3.98, doing research, happy as a clam.
Youngest are twins. Freshman at Stony Brook engineering. Least happy of the four. Social life fairly dead, campus life not exciting, major issues with kosher meal plan which was a problem for him. Considering whether he may want to transfer next year.
Other twin mech e at Wentworth IT. This was the big sleeper for us - he LOVES it! Loves the classes, loves Boston, is in ROTC and has made a bunch of friends - super happy kid!
Wishing everyone good luck!
