were to find work experience

hy, im currently in grade 8.
i just have a simple question i've been thinking about for the past 2 days.

were can i find work experience? do i have to get recomendation or do i have to ask the school?? is their any specific places im suppost to go?
basicly if anyone can give me some info about work experience that would be great.

if it helps i live in thornhill, ontario, canada (next to toronto)

thanks for the help, pardon my spelling

Work experience? There’s a McDonalds everywhere…

Lmao, wow i luaghed my ass off, good one. but i dont think thats what i was looking for.
ow ya, I FORGOT TO MENTION, if i could get work experience with science that would be lovely becuase i want to go to a science program to become a scientist in university

I fail to see why that was funny. addymithas’ suggestion was excellent.

you really think so, susgeek? do you think the universities care or not what type of work experience you get like working at mcdonalds. i just never really thought mcdonalds was for me, the reason is that im jewish. as you now were not allowed to eat or mix meat and cheese together, but were also not allowed to sell it like mcdonalds does.

Colleges only want to see you using your time productively. McDonalds will hire 14-year-olds. Two of my kids worked at McDonalds. One is now a Product Development Engineer having graduated from college and the other is a rising junior @ Smith College. So it worked for them, obviously.

If McDonalds is a problem for your religion, check out retail like Walmart or Kmart. You will work, and work hard! But just start somewhere, and don’t look at any work as below you.

One excellent way to get work experience is to start as a volunteer at a nonprofit that provides a social service you care deeply about. You will get work skills, learn how to function in a professional environment, contribute to something you care about, and if you do a really good job, get invited back for a paid position (if they have money) or a really good reference for a paying job in the area you are interested in. This has worked for both of my kids - they started as volunteers and ended up with paid positions of considerable responsibility in subsequent summers and over the school year.

If not McDonalds, Burger King?

“were” to find work experience? Maybe somewhere where they teach you to spell. How on earth did you make it to the eight grade?

He/she lives in Canada, remember? Low expectations is what I’m saying.

Ahahah Do you Beliebe who else is from Canada? ;)

do u bother to read were i wrote “pardon my spelling”, intemister. im just typing fast, if u have nothing good to say just dont write on this thread.
addymithas, i have the same problem with burger king but i guess i can always try.

M’s Mom, yes thats exacty what i wanted to do, volunteering.
its that i wanted to know if theirs any specific places im suppost to go or theirs anything im suppost to do

I don’t think most places are legally allowed to hire 13-year-olds. You might be better off looking for volunteer work somewhere until you’re old enough. Maybe find some place that panders to your interests (i.e., a vet’s office if you’re into veterinary medicine) and volunteer there a few times a week.

@caligulashorse- key word: “legally”

dont be too serious about those people, you know the not everyone is as nice as you are:D
yeah, volunteer would be great. Although i would recommend you to do some project or something. As you have said, you like science. So start a club or something(sounds hard but you relly should try)So that you can show ur leadership skill ANd tell colleges that you can organize your time properly

your right stevenydc, i was planning to start my own science club (if their isnt one already).
how do i find out if places want or need volunteering?? and how long would i have to volunteer to call it “work experience” if u now what i mean??

caligulashorse, i wasn’t going to start volunteering untill i get to highschool.

Call places and ask if they take volunteers. Simple as that.

I don’t know about the schools there in Canada, but here in my area, some of the middle school students help to mentor the disadvantaged kids at the elementary schools. You may want to contact the schools in your area to find out if they have similar programs. I also recommend you to call your local library, or churches, or shelters to see if they have volunteer work that you can do. Hope this helps.

yes it did OCELITE, thanks

See 335, " it’s " .
