Can anyone tell me about the ED recruiting process at a NESCAC school like Wesleyan? I’m on the list that the rowing coach will recommend through admissions for ED1. This is no guarantee that I’ll get in by any means. I was just wondering if anyone knows how much pull a nescac coach has?
If you passed the preread, then you SHOULD be good to go. Granted, things do happen, but if you passed the admissions preread and the coach is recruiting you, that is a good position to be in. You can ask the coach how often a recruit of his/hers is not admitted after passing the admissions preread. That is a fair question. If it is a new coach, then it is much less definite.
Ok thank you! The coach isn’t new and I did get through the pre read with a positive response. The only thing I’m worried about is that I’m possibly competing against other recruits in admissions. Like maybe the coach promised to help more kids than he can really take in- making admissions have to reject some. But I doubt that happens right?
I am not sure exactly what you are asking. If you are asking whether Wesleyan admissions has had a lengthy experience with coach support through admissions, the answer is “yes.” If you are asking whether Wesleyan has rejected applicants with coach support, the answer also is “yes.” Presumably, you have applied ED1. Presumably, you received advice from the coach as to whether or not to submit ACT/SAT scores. Presumably, you worked hard to assemble a good application. In that case, you have done everything you can to increase your odds of admission. Other variables are how much the coach needs you relative to other recruits, and none of us can opine on that. It is a bit late now, but the recommended questions to a coach during the recruiting process include “how many recruits are on your list and where am I on that list?” With a positive preread, the odds are in your favor. None of us, however, can tell you what those odds are. The best of luck to you, and keep your fingers crossed.
Thank you, this was really helpful!
