I want to major in english, and from what I understand, all four have awesome english programs. I have to make a decision by May 1, and I still have NO idea where to go. I definately want to go on to grad school and earn my PhD so with that in mind, if any of you guys could give me any advice on deciding between these four schools, I'd really appreciate it. I'm actually visiting Wesleyan tomorrow...but definately won't have time to visit all four. Thanks!

You have a tough decision they are all great schools. I really liked Kenyon (I'm a parent), but it is very small a little on the preppy side. We really liked Oberlin too, that was my daughters first choice until she visited Wes for a 2nd trip. I don't know much about Carleton other then it's a great school. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those choices. It's really a matter of what fits and feels right. My D is up at Wes right now for Wesfest and couldn't be happier with her choice to apply ED1. She's already made so many friends and has really enjoyed the classes she visited.

Good luck with your choice! and ok I can't help myself... go to Wes, it's awesome!

Thanks for the resonse! I called wesleyan about wesfest and the lady said it was completely booked.. so i'm actually going to be at wesleyan on SUNDAY which is sort of unfortunate... but at least I can get a feel for the campus and maybe talk to a student or two. I was a RD applicant, and I wish I could have attended wesfest. This is really hard because I feel like I would fit in at all the schools and since I can't visit all of them, I can't really know for sure. However, I've heard that there are a lot of hippies at Oberlin...whatever that means. haha.. I'm asian and I come from a very preppy environment so it might take awhile to adjust. My primary concern though is mostly the academics but of course, social environment is important also.

go to wes!!! wes' the best hahaa

Light--- To bad you didn't write this before... even I could have got you hooked up with housing for Wesfest! Like I said my d was ED no housing.. she's been there since Thursday and it's been no problem (a little cramped, but no problem) If you can get there today go!! Many of the kids are leaving tonight. I know Wes has a 16% Asian American first year student profile (class of 2008). At first, Wes seemed to feel a little hippy-ish too, but the more times we went we found it to be a mix of intelligent, friendly and engaging students. Many were athletes, you won't find athletes at oberlin!

Again.. Good luck!

Wesfest is very laid back and chill- Wesleyan students host extra students freely and willingly. A friend of mine stayed an extra night- the host was just like "sure, stay for longer," and other students who hadn't signed up were willing to host.
