Wesleyan Class of 2013 Regular Decision

My matriculation into Wes depends heavily on what other colleges accept me and when I visit them. I got to visit only 3 of the 10 colleges before I applied (Wes being one). Since 7 of the colleges are NESCAC Liberal Arts Colleges (with another being a midwest LAC), I'll be in for a difficult decision.

Congrats to all you RDers from an EDer! Hope to see you guys at Wes in fall! Great job!

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: yay congrats to everyone else who got in!! Wes is pretty much my top choice and I wasn't even expecting the letter so it was a pretty awesome surprise. there's only one certain school in providence that I'd give the edge too, and I did get a big scholarship to another school. but right now it's looking good for Wes next fall.

also financial aid info wasn't available because we haven't been able to send our tax forms yet. so that's really what me being able to go hinges on.

Congrats to everyone!! (And advance congratulations to anyone who posts in the future, haha)

oops I forgot to finish writing my ECs. I was also co-chair of my city's youth commission, jazz band, academic team, and produced a radio show.

no letter today, looks like I'll have to wait a while longer, ah well

You look at the SAT & GPA numbers of the acceptees so far and have to conclude it appears that Wesleyan is moving early to try to lock in kids who may well be accepted at the top Ivies in a couple weeks. It's a good strategy, but will it work.

Only those acceptees know for sure.

For that reason, though, applicants not in that elite category shouldn't draw any adverse conclusions from not having heard yet, IMO.

If you are deferred (QuestBridge), is it possible for you get an early admission letter/early write? I just want to know so I stop running to the mailbox everyday.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's what I don't quite get....early decisions for the applicants with the strongest credentials in an attempt to get them to commit and not go to a competing university/college. But every elite school is doing the same thing, making early decisions for prime beef. If all schools went back to April 1st for EVERBODY, it would be the same. Why not move up the decision for everybody by two weeks? In short, if all of the elite schools are giving early regular decisions, what's really being accomplished?

Because that would be fair...

And that's not how college admissions always work now, is it?

the point is to try to recruit the best students BEFORE other top colleges also give them acceptances. so no matter what the official date is, they will try to get a little heads up

I'm not sure if the data really suggests that that is what Wesleyan is doing. There seems to be an incredible range of applicants on here who have gotten in. My friend is at the top of his class with an sat score of 2300 and amazing EC's and he hasn't gotten a letter (neither have I and I have a 2220 and am #2 in the class), so I dont know, while there are some very strong applicants on here who will no doubt be accepted by ivy league schools, I'm not sure if that is true of everyone who has posted here, and seems to be true of other applicants who have not heard anything (such as my friend).

Are there any others who received an email complimenting his/her application but have not received an early admission letter?
