My mom just found a handwritten letter that was on the floor. It's from my senior interviewer all the way back when I visited Wesleyan in November with their TAP program. Did anyone else get this?

Application

Essay
I felt really good about my common application essay, but less than confident on several of my others. Wesleyan did not require these, so I might say that I feel best about my Wesleyan essay.

Recommendations
Well, I know that at least one teacher was authentic in scope and stylistic character, though I fear the other teacher and my counselor wrote the standard, generic recommendations that do little to impress.

Interview
I did not have an interview with this or any college.

Personal Information

Location: Green Bay, Wisconsin
School Type: Public, suburban/urban mix
Gender/Ethnicity: Male/Caucasian
Legacy: None whatsoever. My parents when to technical school and one got her bachelors degree going to school part-time
Athlete: I jog, but I dont participate in school-related activities.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Head of Political Awareness Club, competitor on Math Team and Social Studies Academic Team
Other Factors: The fact that my family is very poor seems to have no impact; the financial aid package is excellent. I do no volunteering, but I do have a part-time job. I am a National Merit Finalist.
Other Colleges: I qualified for fee waivers, so I applied to eleven schools (Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Pomona, Reed, Stanford, Swarthmore, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin- Madison, Wesleyan and Yale). I have heard back only from Madison and Wesleyan, both of which accepted me.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I was waitlist at WUSTL so I was super-nervous about Wesleyan. But...

Decision: Accepted!

Essays: Always wish I could have written them better, but now I feel pretty solid about them
Teacher Recs: Waived rights
Counselor Rec: Waived right
Interview: Was very impressed with my stats, rigor and organization; convinced me to apply to more Ivies. At first I thought he was joking.
Hook (if any): Immigrant and former ESL student who later won numerous state and national writing awards? Then again, maybe none.
State or Country: WA
School Type: PUBLIC and proud of it. Interviewer said he mostly met with private school types (aka Lakeside) so I was very flattered when he spoke well of me. About 600 in class.
Ethnicity: ORM - Chinese
Gender: F
Legacy: No
Recruited Athlete & Sport: No
Important ECs: international issues community service clubs, Yearbook
Other Factors: Awards; teachers like me, talk about me apparently
General Comments/Congratulations/etc: My confidence was and continues to be pretty low going into college admissions. If Wes' goal with sending out earlier acceptances than the Ivies was flattery, they succeeded! lol

Edit to add: CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ELSE!

Ealgian: Congrats! I got my early write on the 17th too. Your stats are amazing. I don't know why WUSTL would waitlist you. But then, no one can predict what may happen during the admission season.

WUSTL pretty much waitlisted everyone. Ever.

Razalman: Really? three ppl from my school district who applied through the ED got accepted. So I thought there weren't so many applicants waitlisted.. hmmm

check the forum on here, lol.

Apparently they waitlist people they don't think would attend if accepted.

Ealgian: Congrats!! Your stats are AMAZING, I can't imagine you not getting in anywhere (but you should pick Wes). If you're in the Seattle area (you probably are, since you mentioned Lakeside), we might know each other or at least have some mutual friends. I used to go to Northwest. Message me if you're so inclined :)

AND about WUSTL:
I heard they only accepted a group the size of their freshman class, and everyone else they'd take in off a waitlist (in order to make sure they end up with the exact right number of students, for financial reasons or something). Seems like a bad idea to me though, because lots of kids, especially ones that get in to other schools, will ask to be taken off the waitlist, so they'll be left with the kids that didn't get in anywhere else...
I mean, it's not my call, but it strikes me as really weird.
There's a girl in my class who was accepted to Yale ED and waitlisted at WashU. Make of that what you will.

Wow.

10char.

I guess I will be hearing from them on the 26th.

Ohhhh boy.

Thanks for your kind comments laceyk, flyingpig and neethus. (Edit to add: lol flyingpig, I just realized what you meant by "Northwest"! bonks self on head)

I am not too worried about WUSTL. In retrospect, I should not have applied as I was never interested and therefore did not demonstrate interest, which I understand is very important to them. I believe this, combined with the fact that one of my friends is also in full-IB and probably has a 4.0, applied, led to my waitlist.

Should have taken a shot at Williams or Amherst! Oh well. Just nervously awaiting all the other decisions (esp. since I know Grinnell has sent out likely/early letters and I did not get one, but I did get a course catalogue. What's up with that? lol)! :D

Ealgian: I received two application packets from Pomona a few weeks after I submitted my application online. I don't know what's up with that. I was like, "...but... I've already applied!"

Oh, laceyk, how we would love to exchange those wierd packets and catalogues for decisions! :) Good luck with Pomona.

Totally know what you mean by the Lakeside thing, Ealgian. Though I'm probably not one to talk... I also go to a private school in the Seattle area. But we're more like a jock school than anything :/

Just curious, do you go to EWHS? thats the only IB program I'm aware of around here. Congrats on your acceptance!

OH MY GOSH what is with all the Seattle kids popping up everywhere?
Do you go to UPrep, ElaineN8? (Not that I think it's a jock school, but maybe the closest thing to it). I have lots of friends there :)

Thanks elainen.

lol I just make fun of Lakeside because, well, everyone knows about them and, hence, everyone else does, too.

No, I don't go to Edmonds-Woodway. IHS (not Ingraham) is where the shiznit's at! ;) There are about 10 WA schools that do IB, I believe.

@ Mamae My D received an e-mail from the Wes admissions officer handling our area about how good her essay was but has not received an acceptance letter. What has her worried is that another student (val) from her HS was already accepted to Wes. D is number 3 in class and worried that she won't get in..... but then she did get the note about her essay. Also way back before ED she was being recruited by two Wes coaches, one who even said admissions looked over her ap and said it was favorable, but they both dropped contact with her when she told them she could not apply ED for financial reasons.
She is afraid that Wes won't accept 2 from her HS.

nah, I go to AMHS out in Everett. Which isn't really the Seattle-area, but still Puget Sound. Close enough for us to feel inferior to all the dang Lakesiders. I played against them in CYO in middle school... at least we could beat them in sports!
