[] Strengths: The fact that I took Calculus 1&2 at a college my junior year and got a B and A respectively (that being my only B in HS), being the co-founder of an LGBT club, on the board of one of the most respected philanthropic organizations in my region. I submitted an art portfolio, demonstrated that I didn’t take 4 years of art for nothing.
[] Weaknesses: I was worried how my PSEO courses would be viewed compared to AP classes (HS offers no AP courses). My common app was a bit of a mess, as can be my life. My ECs looked very inconsistent on paper and they only look good now because I’m cleaning them up due to hindsight. My course history is fairly jumbled as well.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: see “strengths”, I live in the middle of nowhere so I feel kinda inadequate next to some others on this site but in a way that just meant I had search deeply to find ways to put my talents to use and give back to my community, which helped me grow. I also have a clear, unrelenting, burning passion to study mathematics.

I’m thankful Wesleyan saw the potential in me which I see. I’m amazed to have made it this far. I was very ambitious in the colleges I applied to and have been worried sick that I wouldn’t make it into a single one. While touring the campus I felt such an intense sense of belonging there; there’s a possibility I might even want to choose them over an ivy.

[] Strengths: Those essays were probably my best ones. I also come from a small town, but in my sophomore year, I applied to the top high school in my state, so that displayed determination.
[] Weaknesses: Not enough meaningful leadership positions or summer activities, could’ve had bigger major awards. My grades have also been dipping a bit. Also, my ethnicity and the fact that I didn’t know my counselor that well.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My essays. The six colleges I heard back from before Wesleyan were all rejections, and I have a feeling it was because my essays weren’t great, and because my scores were a better match for Wesleyan. Also my views on feminism.

[/ul]General Comments: Wesleyan is one of my top choices. Even if I don’t end attending Wesleyan because of financial reasons, I’ll always remember the moment of my first acceptance, after being rejected by every single one of the six schools I’d heard back from before Wesleyan. I went into my decision letter, sure that I was going to be rejected again, only to see the words “Congratulations!” (Although next time, when I apply for graduate school, I’m definitely going to apply to a lot more matches/safeties)

I wrote it the main essay about how I’ve always been a reader and a writer and that’s how I learned about the world and whatnot. it sounds better (though maybe still as “Girl In Your MFA” pretentious?) in person. And my supplement was very good and creative I think, I did the “interesting conversation” one about like rambling 2am conversations on my best friend’s bedroom floor

I wrote them this looooong letter the day before admissions about how much I love the school and don’t want to go anywhere else. but I honestly think it was my supplement. plus I had such a good feeling when i visited that I feel like the universe like cosmically wanted me to go to wes.

Strengths: my extracurriculars and test scores.
Weaknesses: GPA- 3.8 hardly cuts it these days, although 4.0 first semester senior. No hooks.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Besides having the test scores, I’m just look like a Wesleyan kind of person and strong in science and the arts. Great in-person interview and attended local alumni sponsored event where after speaking to an alumnus told admissions person I was a fit…

Accepted with no merit money: Wes, Barnard, UCSD, UCSB

Rejected: Brown, Northwestern, UC-Berkeley

Comments: Deciding between Wes and Barnard- very different schools! No merit money for either but parents willing to foot most of the bill if I can demonstrate the return on investment is better. Wes was “first love” but Brown turned my head.
