Wesleyan or Vassar?

It's a conundrum. What school should I pick: Wesleyan or Vassar?

After my acceptances I thought long and hard about the choice, and really, it comes down to the quality of the creative writing departments in each school, and the type of people that I will find at each school. I'm very interested in any attempt to distinguish one school from the other as they are in the field of writing (prose, plays, and poetry) and as the students are. Thank you all very much.

you’ll be very happy at Vassar.

have u visited both? u should, if able.

I have gone for short visits, and i have been invited to go on longer ones (that I will ultimately go on). I was instantly charmed by Vassar’s campus and got a good vibe from the students there, even though i didn’t get a chance to speak to them for an extended amount of time. Wesleyan’s campus was less impressive and when I stayed their overnight I was a little board, granted it was a sunday, I also didn’t find my host or his friends particularly interesting, but that was probably just the luck of the draw.
I was not at all exposed to the writing community at either school.

I don’t get it, you are applying to a woman’s college, but your name is Mr?

haha, no, you don’t get it. It has been co-ed for a long time

Vassar has admitted men since 1969.

Board for bored is indeed creative writing.

if you’re a straight guy i’ve heard vassar is like paradise. sounds like you’re leaning towards it more anyway. :)

…and if you’re a gay guy, i’ve heard vassar is like paradise.

haha yeah
IF YOU ARE A PERSON, VASSAR IS LIKE PARADISE… wait, maybe a stretch? lol
but it’s an awesome place i have many a friend there (but no gay guy friends there :frowning: so i just hadn’t directly heard that before)

ha, well I’m not gay so yea…

in addition to already having a strong writing program, Wesleyan just received a $3.5 million gift to establish a writing center in the currently-being-renovated davenport hall, which will open this fall. it also creates an endowed faculty position.

There have been tons of threads about this comparison, and reading through them should give you a pretty good sense of what both schools are like in terms of campus culture. In this thread, I link to a bunch of other Vassar/Wes comparison threads: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/vassar-college/582982-vassar-v-wesleyan.html?highlight=vassar

In terms of creative writing, they are both fairly strong. I go to Wes. I’ve taken one creative writing class and really enjoyed it, and have several friends who do writing here and love it.
