Wesleyan, Vassar, Brandeis Oh My!

Freshman at Bard College
Chem/Psych Major
A First Year Seminar
A Calculus II
B+/A- General Psychology (all I need is an A- on the final for an A-)
B/B+ General Chemistry (all I need is a B on the final for a B+)

30 ACT (34R/31E/30M/26S)

I play college rugby, write for The Observer (the official school paper), in Amnesty Internatial (currently planning a human rights festival), and am currently studying Brazilian Jujistu. I play percussion and am currently playing in a psychedelic jam group. I also am a research assistant to the head of the Chem department; I do pretty expensive and complicated experiements for a professor with a small group of select chemisty student.

In high school I was class treasurer, played four years varsity football, had multiple bands which recorded and played shows, and held two jobs for almost all of high school. I had a 3.2 UW at private catholic and was 32/177. I took the hardest course load possible.

I'm also a nationally-ranked powerlifter. I came in 3rd at States in JV sophomore year, 1st as States in Varisty junior year, and 3rd as States in Varsity senior year. I plan to compete in the NY Open.

Right now my list is:
Vassar
Brandeis
Wesleyan

I have a hook at Vassar because I am a crew recruit (even thought I have no prior experience). I met with the coach today and he told me he will send out a recommendation to admissions when the time nears. He specifically said he wished he had me there this year, so I'm pretty sure he wants me at Vassar. However, they are not need-blind for transfers, and my EFC is about $19,000.

I sent out recruitment paper for football at Wesleyan today. I don't think that's a likely recruit though. Possibly though. I've been in contact with admissions and the head of the neuroscience program.

Yes, I've posted this before. But this has more information and a catchier title.

Help anyone?

Bumpbumpbump

Please? I really am getting nervous.

I may be removing Brandeis and adding UVA and UVM. Don't think my parents will actually let me go to UVM, but if I get alot of merit, then maybe.

why wouldnt your parents let you go to uvm? im actually transferring out but im just curious

They say UVM is not as good at Bard, so they don't want me to go.

Right now my grades are looking like this for the end of the semester:

Calculus II A-/A (Need an 88 on the final for an A)
Psychology A-/A (Need an A on the final for an A)
First Year Seminar A
Chem I B+/A- (Need an A for an A-)

Ideally I can get 3.92, and hopefully lowest a 3.67. I should have an A in Calc though, I've got an 88 and 86 on the other two tests and this one seems like it should be the easiest. I'm thinking I'll get about a 3.75 this semester.

My list is now:

Vassar College
Wesleyan University
Wheaton College (MA)
Clark University

I'm hoping to get merit aid at Wheaton and I could live off campus. Hopefully Clark would give me merit aid also.

Chances?

I have no idea about your chances, but why are you thinking about transferring from Bard?

Bard has 1 Neuroscience teacher, 3 Chemistry teachers. My classes are not intellectually challenging...basically teachers just swamp you with work. The social scene is WACK. Also, it's way too expensive...aka 24K a year for me and I'm paying by myself. It will be almost IMPOSSIBLE for me to double major in Neuro/Chem in 4 years because of distribution requirements.

So here are my accurately projected grades based on the finals I've taken:

FYSEM A

Psychology A-/A
I needed a 94 on the final for an A, I think I got somewhere from a 90-96 so we'll see.

Chemistry B+/A-
I just aced the final test. My teacher pretty much confirmed this. However, it is only 1/3 of the grade. The class is scaled, so if it's scaled up enough I should be able to get an A-.

Calculus II A-/A
I need an A- for an A this term. I take the test tomorrow, but this is my best class.

This makes my GPA in between 3.675 and 3.925, provided I don't absolutely bomb the Calc final. If I can get roughly a 3.8 for the semster, do I have a solid chance at Wesleyan/Vassar? Should I try to reapply to Tufts and apply to Bowdoin? I'm really excited about my grades this semester...I hope they show the admissions comittee how intelligent I really am.

Except for Tufts, none of the schools you are considering a transfer to are among those you applied to last year. It's perfectly normal to have a change of heart over the course of a year, but why are you not interested in pursuing a transfer to any of the other colleges that intrigued you as a high school senior?

BTW, congratulations on a solid academic performance 1st semester freshman year. I don't have any idea if this will impress Wesleyan and UVA but I'm impressed.

I may apply to Clark, but they do not offer much money to transfers, which is a problem. BU and Northeastern are the same way, and I think I can do better academically; plus the 5 year program at Northeastern is just not logical when I'll follow it up with 4+ years of graduate school. UMass won't give me any merit aid so it will cost as much as Bard, and Hampshire will be too much like Bard socially.

I was orignally going to apply to Wheaton last year but opted out because it's in my town. However, now I'm rethinking it.

I think my list will be like this:

Wesleyan
Vassar
Tufts/Bowdoin
Wheaton (MA)
Clark/Brandies

Wheaton only costs 22K a year, 18K if I commute (I can walk there in under 10 minutes) and I would hopefully get some merit aid because of my academics. I don't know if I'd like Tufts or Bowdoin more, but Tufts was my dream school...I just like the small school atmosphere so I really don't know.

alright, so i'm kind of interested in how you do, since our stats are exactly the same, even in being a nationally ranked powerlifter. that was a lie. but my dad and i always said i should grow up to be a pro wrestler. but then the only women in the WWF started to be those women in bikinis with breast implants. which actually has nothing to do with power lifting. actually, the only thing really similar is our grades and scores, and we seem to have around the same amount of ec involvement. and i'm also interested in wesleyan and vassar, and bard to some extent, although i think i might be taking it off my list, and vassar seems to be falling of as well because it's art department doesn't sound good enough. i am losing my train of thought again. the main point of me responding to this is: good luck with the wesleyan football recruitment, but if that doesn't work out, did you think about talking to their crew coach as well? my friend didn't have any experience with crew either, but simply because he was a big(tall), strong, athletic guy, the coach seemed to be really after him. and he absolutely loves crew now.

I should probably talk to their crew coach...problem is I'm only 5'9'' so I'm not really ideal height for crew. Luckily, that's average height at Vassar for their men's team.

Any other suggestions?
