Wesleyan vs. Oberlin

Could anyone help me make some distinctions between the two schools? To me, they both seem a little looser than the average LAC, with more music, diversity, etc. What specifics set them apart?

Very, very similar. What you said. Almost anything said about one could probably be said about the other. Oberlin has the Conservatory, so there’s probably more classical European music being performed at any given moment. Wesleyan tends to be pretty eclectic musically. In the end, it may just be a matter of geographic location; my sense is that Wesleyan has an edgy component that plays up the whole psuedo blue-collar, End of The World, aspect of Central Connecticut (there’s also a weird attachment to Brooklyn, New York that I don’t quite understand, considering that it’s about a hundred miles away.) A current student would have to answer whether there’s a similar component with reference to Oberlin, Ohio.

every other kid you meet at wes is from nyc. hence the connection.

and as an actual student, I have no idea what you’re talking about with the “whole psuedo blue-collar, End of The World, aspect of Central Connecticut”

^^A sense of being beyond the reach of civilization; quotidian; middlebrow:
