I have a friend who was accepted to both Wesleyan and USC. She's considering majoring in something related to biology but not necessarily pre-med. She also received a guaranteed transfer to Cornell. She's somewhat set on Wesleyan but she's sort of vascillating. I really want her to go to Wes, for the obvious reasons but I have trouble selling the school to her. Can all you Wes fanatics tell me every reason why Wes will kick the hell out of 4 years at USC?

If she's transferring to Cornell anyway, does it even matter?

I've talked to kids at wes who are amazingly happy with what they have, yet i've also got friends at USC who love the school more than they ever thought they would. It's her call, don't be pushy/shovy.

She can never be sure if she's planning to transfer to Cornell after a year. The decision she must make now is USC or Wesleyan, and yes I think it does matter.

It doesn't if she's transferring anyway. But if she isn't then I say wesleyan because I prefer the attention that i'd receive as a student at wes. At USC that attention doesn't really exist for undergrads atleast. There are a lot of students at USC and i'm not sure that I would like to go to school with that many students. In the end it's her call though...

I sort of fail to understand how the decision as to where one spends a year--25%--(and possibly more if she doesn't transfer) of one's undergraduate experience is irrelevant. That's a good argument in favor of the attention at Wesleyan. I've been telling her that.

What I meant by that is that if she's guaranteed transfer to cornell, then it doesn't really matter where she goes for that one year if she's going to cornell anyway. Both schools are reputable and going to them would not revoke her transfer decision. She's in the green for transfer if she goes to either so it really doesn't matter since both are sound academically and have a lot to offer. USC's got the weather though. Might as well spend one year in good weather if you're going to wallow at cornell for 3 years. haha.

Wes, definitely, for science. USC's very....Business/arts. Also, the student body's kind of shallow, and fits the LA-stereotype very well. I got accepted to both as well, and I'm probably going to Wes.

Actually, I'm going to wes too, but wes is as artsy/art focused as USC if not more. It does have superb science programs too though.
