Wesleyan?

Hi,
well I'm a junior in high school studying in an international school in Vietnam. I'm American but I've never lived in the US, instead I have lived all over the world. since I've never really lived in the states its hard to figure out where to go for college, so far I am thinking about
1) Wesleyan
2) Reed College
3) Oberlin
which one would be best for me if;
1) I enjoy city life (even if that means not living in the city itself) and that kind of urban music scene
2) I am planning on being an English Lit major
3) I really enjoy art, photography, music and all of that type of stuff

also, being that I'm an international student I have grown accustom to the night life in Vietnam. I know this isn't everything, and I keep my grades up and I do really well in school, but the fact is this has become a part of my life. so taking that into account does anyone have an recommendations?

Reed is the only one on your list that is in a city. Portland is supposed to have a great music/art scene.

The other two schools are excellent, but Oberlin is isolated and Wesleyan is in a not so nice town two hours from either Boston or NYC.

Reed has the most requirements, I believe. Hum110, Junior quals, and a senior thesis, as well as many distribution requirments. So you may want to look into curricular differences as well.

Good Luck!

You may want to check out Swarthmore, Haverford and Vassar.

If you really want “nightlife”, Wesleyan may not be a great choice. There are good parties and the social scene is good, but it’s in a very small town where there isn’t much to do off-campus. As far as I know, there aren’t any clubs in Middletown, just 2 pretty casual bars.

It’s a great school and my friends there really love it, but it’s definitely not urban.

Reed sounds like a great fit for you!

Haverford and Swarthmore are both located in inner-ring suburbs of Philadelphia and are linked to Philly by commuter rail (with stations within walking distance of campus). Vassar, on the other hand, is at least two hours away from NYC by Metro North and Loop bus service. Poughkeepsie also has more rough edges than Middletown, CT. But maybe that’s OK if you like that sort of grit.

You may want to check out The University of Richmond which, despite the name, is really a liberal arts college located within the city limits of Richmond, VA.
