West = Best, what about the Midwest?

I currently live in Lake Tahoe, on the Nevada/California border. College choice semi-finals are between Purdue and Cal Poly (Ive been accepted to both, First Year and Mechanical Engineering respectively). Visiting Purdue in a couple weeks for the final decision. 3.93 unweighted, 4.36 weighted, 1250 SAT and Salutatorian, yet ive only been notified of a $2k outreach scholarship from Cal Poly. Disheartening to say the least. Im looking at using my AP credits to eventually save me money in the long run, but a masters or a double major will likely fill those free classes quickly. The question remains, is the west truly best, or would the midwest better supplement my potential?

Go for Purdue, it is really good for mechanical engg and you will get more resources because it is a big school.
Cal Poly may be good but it's name is only known in Cali while everyone in the engineering field has heard of Purdue. You will get better job opportunities and facilities at Purdue.

cal poly only heard of in california? you must be joking me.
