West Campus Apt's ?

Hey guys,

I know this might not be the ideal forum to post this but I couldn't find anywhere else to.
I am interested in an apartment in the area of West Campus for 550$ max all-included. I've been looking through craigslist and all the offers there are almost solely for sublets. I would want to move in ASAP but stay for the fall since I have summer classes and fall as well at ACC.
Any help would be extremely appreciated, I'm currently out of options and want to start my life at Austin.

Thanks!

Sorry, but you’re going to have a really hard time finding anything with your criteria. I initially thought I was going to live in an apartment for some time when I came to UT, and I browsed through a lot in the ~$600 price range, but could hardly find any real promising ones. This was back in March.

West Campus is notorious for being the more expensive neighborhood, and considering how close it is now to the start of the year, many that were in your price range are probably taken, and the few that aren’t most likely have had their prices jacked up significantly. You might be able to find some in North Campus or Riverside, if you don’t mind the distance, otherwise, the closest thing I can tell you is to join a co-op. There’s ICC (iccaustin.coop), College Houses (collegehouses.org), Sasona (sasona.org), and the German House (studentorgs.utexas.edu/dhaus). I only know that the ICC and College Houses are around your price range, but I’m not sure about the others, and that the only availability that the first two have for the fall are for females.

Hope that helped somehow. Good luck on your search.

Hey,

Thanks. It does seem like that and I feel really down these days to be honest, I’m not sure how I will handle all the pressure of getting a really good GPA to transfer over to UT, work at least 20 hours a week (for establishing residency :() and pay some crazy rent. I applied to collegehouses but you’re right. ICC doesn’t really look to my liking but they seem to be full as well. I am probably going to check out places in Austin today so I’ll just drop by the German house see what’s going on there. Same for Sasona although it seems pretty far off.

Thanks

Don’t be down! My roommate and I found a place the last week of July last year and got a steal ($525 each on 28th and nueces). People get desperate near the beginning of the school year. Call an apartment locator (they’re free) and see what they can do for you. Condos/small apartments are the way to go. Steer clear of the expensive big apartments like The Block and Quarters!

Craigslist has a bunch of subleases right now because students are trying to fill their empty apartments for the summer. Keep checking and sift through all of them; you may get lucky.

The co-ops will probably have space. There are so many of them! You probably just won’t get a single room.

Good luck!

I’d recommend checking out North Campus and Riverside, though they are a bit far from West Campus. I have a room in West Campus that does not include anything for $654… Good luck!
