West Campus or Ecohouse?

I'm an incoming transfer. I prefer my own room, but pets are prohibited in all dorms (besides the ecohouse). I like that west campus because the all women dorms are in the gothics and supposedly have bigger single rooms. it's close to the rest of campus too. I HATE sharing bathrooms with strangers. At ecohouse I would have to have a roommate and be secluded from campus. I have to get an on campus job. Getting from ecohouse from wherever I work will probably be a pain (I'm not used to the cold and live in an area where it's warm all year.. no snow). I can be social, but I like my space and independence. I'm having a difficult time deciding. Pointers?

eco house is literally in the middle of nowhere. You can barely see any other campus buildings from it. That alone, regardless of any other quirks/habits would make me choose West. You will probably have a hard time getting any friends to go over to your place to chill.

Unless of course, that suits your style. Unfortunately, sharing bathrooms is almost impossible to avoid… in fact I can’t think of anyone I know who hasn’t done so for at least a year.

In short, when people say the eco house is secluded, they really mean it, no exaggerations. If you like that, go for it. If you don’t, it’s not even a choice then.

I’ll probably stick to west since I’m new and know absolutely no one at Cornell. I would do collegetown and get my own apartment, but it’s more expensive. I mean if Cornell is willing to pay for that I will definitely take the offer. I’m not paying for anything besides my student contribution from work. I don’t even know how to suggest collegetown as an option…

Are you going to be living in the gothics? Just a heads up…the gothics have huge rooms, but they are very old…some students seem to find them “depressing” but it should be okay. I would still choose any place on west campus over some place far away. West is just very convenient and the dining halls are right there.

Oh, I like the idea of big rooms! Why would it be depressing? It looks like Hogwarts, I think it looks cool.

I am also curious why the gothics would be depressing. I have lived in the gothics the past two years, and I think they had a pretty cool atmosphere. it’s neat to live in a pretty building, and 90 years isn’t that old.

Hehe I think they look cool too…I know someone who claimed that it was depressing living there and he had to change buildings…but that is probably just one extreme case. I have only lived in the new houses, so I can’t really say much about the gothics.
