My daughter is looking for a LAC with an excellent choral program on the West Coast. She is also interested in music production. On our list so far: Willamette, Pacific University, U of Washington, Western Wa, Central Wa, Univ of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran, Univ of Portland, Mills.....have we missed any good music schools?

Just out of curiosity - you said ‘choral program’, do you mean choral as in ‘choirs’ or do you mean a good ‘vocal’ program and either way can you tell me more about what she wants to focus on? (Musical Theater, Opera, pure voice studies, Church Choral, Choral as in ‘show choir’?) Sorry to ask so many questions, but my wife happens to be a voice professor and I know she will want to know more of what your daughter is interested in.

In So. California there’s Chapman and Univ. of Redlands (formerly a music conservatory) which have strong programs. Also Whittier.

I see PLU is on the list. Their choral program is top-notch. I have heard the school is as wonderful as when I attended several decades ago.

She would be studying voice. She would like to be able to sing in a good traditional choir and hopefully an auditioned one. She has experience with small acapella groups.

I second Chapman…one of the best choral programs in the West. Nor an LAC, but UCLA has some great choral opportunities:

youtube is a great way to check out the calibre of some of the programs

Not on the West Coast, but Indiana University is one of the best.
