West Coast Ivy League

Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, Cal Tech, USC.

Its in the works.

Err ... Something is wrong ... I don't see how UCLA and USC can come into the list :)

rtkysq, UCLA, as a whole, is arguably greater than some Ivy League schools. Most rankings outside of US News view UCLA this way. Not only that but if we looked at individual departments, UCLA is stronger in more departments than some Ivy League schools. If you don’t like UCLA, and that is quite obvious, that’s your personal opinion. The problem is when you let your personal opinion get in the way of looking at things objectively.

California1600, I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “West Coast Ivy League.” If you mean the strongest schools on the West then UC San Diego should be put in that list as well. Since the West Coast doesn’t have as many good schools as the East Coast then I agree that USC should be put in the list of the best schools on the West Coast (if that is what you mean by “West Coast Ivy”).

California1600 forgot to put UCSF which is "better" than most Ivies.

Anyway, Shyboy you're caught in a flamebait :) I do know that UCLA is academically equal to some ivies, but I still think that most student would hardly turn down an ivy offer for UCLA.

I know many people who turned down Brown and Cornell for UCLA.

Especially out of state students. The ivy league hype is about to face reality very soon.

I guess we should also add UC San Diego to that list. UCSD is most certainly a better school than Brown. As for UCSF, they always call themselves Berkeley Medical, so they are already included implicitly on that list. =)

Hmm... try to put that in Brown's forum .. hehehe

Hmm... try to put that in Brown's forum .. hehehe>>>

I think I did. Let me go see what they have to say. No doubt they are going to be riled up. The fact is, its good for them to be challenged by a school like UCSD, because in the end it makes them strive to be more competitive, rather than rely on some outdated notion of Ivy League that even the moderators of this website ascribe to, because obviously, they too graduated from an ivy league. Its the downfall of American education, and that is why Europe is fast catching up in academia at this point.

add Pomona, HMC, and Occidental

Oxy is pretty good.

This is from their WebPage

a senior politics major at Occidental College, has won a prestigious Marshall Scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at Oxford University next fall. He is the eighth Occidental student since 1972 to be granted the prize.

Harvard = Stanford
Yale = Berkeley
Princeton = UCLA
Columbia = Pomona
UPenn = USC
Dartmouth = Reed
Brown = Claremont McKenna
Cornell = Colorado College

Phew, good thing you let us know in this six year old thread.
