Hello,
My family is preparing to move to Arizona, and I don't want to stay on the East Coast without them, so I'm looking to transfer to a west coast school. I'm a Music Education major with a concentration in Voice at Temple University, so I'm looking for a somewhat similar (in strength) program. I've been doing a lot of research, but if anyone has any suggestions or, even better, personal experiences, I'd love to hear it. Much obliged.

ASU has a GREAT vocal music program. And as an in state student, it will be a real bargain.
Look into teachers Carol Fitzpatrick, Jerry Doan and David Britton. They have all produced students who have had a fair amount of success(if that is important to you) Also good are USC, UCLA, and San Francisco Conservatory—but all three are EXPENSIVE for a music ed major.

You can’t go to ASU, because they beat us in the tournament. Sorry.

colburn

:)

Colburn does not offer any degree path in music ed. It is a conservatory based performance program with excellent faculty and extremely competitive admissions.

It’s also a full ride program for all those skilled and talented enpugh to make the cut.

Unfortunately, it would not serve as a choice under the parameters the OP indicated.

Most of the musicians I’ve spoken with feel Chapman has the best BM program in classical voice on the West Coast.

The OP is looking for music education programs…not performance. I would also suggest looking into the state universities in Arizona.

The OP should check when her instate status at the Arizona schools will become a reality. I don’t know whether they have a one year residency requirement for the family…or not.

Chapman does offer a music ed degree with a concentration in voice - so if their vocal department is strong, that sounds like it would be well worth checking out.
