Reading the threads it seems that most of the kids ended up on the East Coast or are applying to colleges in the East. Anyone have kids in programs on the West Coast?

I have several friends that are very happy in programs here in the west – San Diego, L.A., Fullerton, Oregon, various community colleges, and friends that have auditioned, applied, or seriously looked into schools all over California. It may be that they just want to stick close to home, but there are of course great programs here and back east. I think the difference is that many of the good programs here tend to be at large state schools, and many seek the smaller liberal arts feel of the great private theatre schools on the east coast, as well as big theatre cities and closer proximity to their own locations.

Same. UCI. UCLA. CSUN. UCSC. CSUF and many, many more. What you don’t find so much in CA are the letters BFA if that matters but the fundamentals in most of these programs are very good, just a little different. Cal Arts is very highly respected for drama. Personally, I wanted both a strong school and a well-regarded theater program. That’s a little tricky anywhere.

@actor12 I didn’t realize CSUN had a good program…thanks for the mention… :)

I’m heading to CalArts this fall.

what could also be an issue is cost if many of the good acting programs in Cali are at the state schools. The OOS costs for a Cali state school are atrocious so I think we are only looking at private schools in Cali. and it is a long way from home if you’re an East coaster so we have to factor in homesickness, plane fairs, moving things to Cali, etc. All that being said, if you have a good shot at a Cali school, go for it. there are lots of great schools there.
