Heard anything about these universities?

University of Washington (Seattle)
Santa Clara University
University of San Diego
Gonzaga University
Loyola Marymount University
Portland University

good, bad, somewhere in between, observations, reviews from friends or family. Anything helps

University of Washington is a pretty good school. It is definitely one of the top public universities in America. Realllly good to go to especially if you are in-state.

Univerrsity of Portland. Really good school, especially if you want to stay in the pacific north west.

yea..stuff happens. What exactly do you want to know?

i take what people say about colleges much more seriously than a book or article. I am wondering more about personal experience or what they have seen or heard about the student body, and college life

I love LMU and USD. They are both in my top 3. I would really recommend them. College Life at both schools is amazing, because of their location....there are so many things to do in LA and San Diego. The beaches and weather are amazing. The students are really laid-back and attractive. There is also a reputation of the students being snooty and arrogant, but what private school isn't like that? And the campuses are both in the top 3, along with Pepperdine.

any other specific questions?

University of Washington (Seattle)- excellent public university; one of the top research institutions in the country. Intro classes can be extremely large (700-800 students)
Santa Clara University- very solid private school, known for their excellent business program
University of San Diego- not as good as Santa Clara academically, but in a great location. Gorgeous campus.
Gonzaga University- solid mix of academics and athletics- great basketball team. Spokane is a nice city, but the weather isn’t so great.
Loyola Marymount University- decent school, but not worth the money unless you are getting quite a large scholarship. The campus is nice and so is the location. The girls are pretty hot. Be aware that it is a commuter school (not good if you are coming from out of state). One of my friends is actually transferring out of LMU this year.
Portland University- UP supposedly has a pretty good reputation in the Northwest. I’ve seen the campus and it’s very nice looking.

I’d recommend dropping LMU from your list and adding Pepperdine. Pepperdine has higher caliber students and it’s definitely a residential campus (people stick around on the weekends). Pepperdine’s campus is unbelievable and you have great views of the coastline. The beach is close (though you really need a car to get there).

Why are you only applying to one public school?

I've heard of most of them, but I've heard the most about Santa Clara U (probably because I have family nearby); it's all good stuff, too. Portland's a great city.

Worried Student: I'm from Seattle and would like to stay on the west coast and the U of Washington is really the only public university that fits me. I think most of the other public schools instate are under me, and I'm not sure I could get into UC Berkley or LA (1370SAT, 29ACT, Middle Eastern Descent, 75 Community Service Hours building homes, NHS, ASB, 3.7 GPA (UW)) if you have any other recomentdations that would be great

I'm at UW now, and I have to say that it's been much better than I thought it would be. As big as UW is, there are so many opportunities for you to find your interests and groups of friends. You should check out the college forums for more information on each of these schools. Here's the one for UW: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=440. If you search for posts from the past 2 months, you'll be able to find some of my posts on the campus. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any specific questions.

Of the universities you mentioned above, it's safe to say the University of Washington is the only university that is well-regarded nationally. The others have a very regional reputation and qualitatively or quantitatively are not on par with UW, I'm afraid.

anyone know which of these has the strongest business programs?

I don't know much about Gonzaga, but all of those schools have really strong business programs. However, UW and Santa Clara are definitely the best. Santa Clara has the best connections and you pretty much get hired before you even graduate.

University of Portand's isn't too bad. Or got to University of Washington's honors college if they have one.

If you like UW, then I don’t see any reason why you would need to apply to any other schools. I’d drop LMU from your. I don’t think you’d have a very good chance of getting into UCLA or Berkeley. It’s very difficult to get into the UC’s coming from out of state.

Washington and Santa Clara. Where do you want to work after graduation? Santa Clara has an outstanding reputation in the Silicon Valley; UW has a great reputation in the Northwest and is a highly respected school. Out of the schools you are applying to, I think Washington has the best academic reputation. If you can get into the honors program at UW, it should be a no brainer. If not, consider that you will have very large intro classes. If that doesn’t bother you, then UW is probably your best choice.

I would recommend applying to USC as they have a great business program.
